TheStar reporting Leafs ready to let Domi, Roberts & Niewy walk today

Link to Story

If its true, today is a sad day. Not only b/c we one of the most popular Leafs of our age in Domi, but Roberts going just doesnt seem right either... plus the possibility that Roberts signs in Ottawa? Hold me as I vomit. How wrong would seeing Roberts in a Sens jersey be. Complete vomitation.

If Gary goes to Ottawa I won't even watch hockey this year. That's a pretty bold statement for a 45 year old to say. Been a Leaf fan forever but hockey will go out the window if I gotta watch him in Ottawa. JF, what the HELL are you thinkin??

That's fine, I say let them walk. This is the year we need to rebuild (kinda) There is too many UFA's (younger) out there that we can use to rebuild/retool our team. I hate to see Roberts go, and wish we'd retain his services, but the likes of Domi and Niewy and expendable. I do understand what they bring to the team, and respect what they have done for us, it's just time to move on.

Niewy can be replaced with either Lindros, Allison, or to a more expensive extent, Holik.

After everything is said and done, it definetly should be an interesting week. It would be nice to see a lil' change in the Leafs' roster. I'd also like to see the likes of Steen, Wellwood, Colaiacovo and White playing with the big club this year. I see big things coming from Steen.

holy over reaction batman

he's a 39 year old with quickly detiorating skills who hasnt played competeive hockey in over a year trying to play hardball.

i for one will be happy if JF doesnt cave in signing gary to anything more than 1.5 million.

Let them walk. Chances are the Leafs will still sign one of Gary or Joe (if not both).

As for Domi, let him join the Penguins. Cap money can be spent better.

We have to get younger, guys. It might hurt to see these popular guys go, but we have to thin out the 35+ crowd on this team or we'll never win it all.

haha, get over it.

Roberts is over the hill, he isn't going to be playing forever.
Do you actually have any interest in winning a cup or no?

How over-rated is that? He won a cup......over 16 years ago!!!!

I hate when I hear "how many rings" are on a team. Who cares? Sure, having a guy that's been there before is nice, but there was a time when that person didn't have a Cup either.

In this instance, you don't cave into a 39-year old player because he won a Cup a decade and a half ago.

We've had him for years now, and yes, I have thoroughly enjoyed having him on our team...but he had that ring when he got here, and he still only has that one.

"More than 200 unrestricted free agents should be available by the time a number of restricted free agents don't receive qualifying offers to retain their rights before Monday's noon ET deadline."

Perhaps JFj is doing the smart thing and actually looking for better players.

These 3 aren't the only assets up for auction.

Indeed. I want our GM to be a strong negotiator. in a cap world that's going to be important. We can live without Roberts and Nieuwy if they are asking too much. We can certainly do without Domi. No need for Fergy to act as if has a gun to his head. Fight for every penny, especially with old guys and peripheral guys like Tie.

You could probably add, old peripheral guys like Tie.

Time to take the hometown discount cheque to the bank and see if it bounces.

I can see why domi is pissed about the offer. You give Belak 785 000, but you wont give one of your oldest leafs, and he is a far better player than belak, 1 mill per season? Talk about a slap in the face.

I agree. I don't understand this at all. Belak isn't half the player or enforcer that Domi is. If the Leafs let him go it'll be just the latest example in a long history of the Leafs turning their back on guys who bleed blue.

I'm guessing JFj spoke in length to Quinn, and maybe they want to give those minutes to a more offensive player.

They got lots of scouting done on Perrott this winter, and must have seen something encouraging. Tie will be 36 when the season is just underway.

i dont understand why people still say Domi is an enforcer, if he ever fights another heavy weight anymore and thats rare at best, he just grabs on and goes for a ride
and honestly when is all this enforcer stuff going to end, its a 39mil cap, people want to promote the skill and speed of the game and people want to waste money and salary on players whos 2nd talent is playing hockey

I dont know if its contagious...go to the Sens board and find out. If they get it, then its contagious. Use them as lab rats.

I somewhat got the impression last season that Domi's "enforcing" days are fast approaching an end. I seem to recall him fighting much less, and deffering much more to Belak/Perrot/others. However I looked at his stats and he had 208 penalty mins, which would seem to indicate that I'm just flat out wrong. Does anyone else recall him fighting much less?

As for Gary/Joe, I love both of them, but if the team can get equivalent or better talent that is younger to boot, all at the same price, I don't know how you could justify keeping them.

he fought just not against other fighters he would fight the 2nd tear guys on the other teams and leave the heavy weights to Belak

IMHO as Domi gets older his ego gets bigger I mean I know he is a fan favourite (not mine) etc But 1 M for a 4th liner?
I know he was good in the playoffs
But I rather see a younger skilled player in his spot Or save the money to sign a good UFA
note to Fergie: add some skill an add some youth
thank you
