It may not be just yet that you can say "times are changing" but reading the WJC board was something else.

I know it's not Canada's best team, but when was the last time they had such low.. expectations? You read that board and everyone's talking about Russia, Sweden, and USA. And they're doing so where it seems like they're just on another level.

Correct. Great 7th round pick, but he was a 7th rounder for a reason. Maybe not "incredibly small," but the odds are against him, yeah.

Everyone's already counting Canada out and I love it. There was no better feeling as a player than stepping onto the ice against a team that thought they were better than you, and then wiping the smirk off their face.

Canada's been the favourite (or at least, not an underdog) for the last 8 or 9 years. The past few years, they haven't faced any adversity until the medal rounds, but what has that gotten us? I want this team to be challenged early, I think it builds character and chemistry for them. Losing to the Czech's sucks but if it gets their ass in gear, so be it.

There is the possibility that we actually just suck but I'm not really entertaining that idea just yet. Another finish off the podium and I might have to face that conclusion.

Well then, glad we have a consensus. Carry on.

What consensus?

The odds were sooner or later our Euro scouts would land one. Put Johnson back in the draft ,he won't make it to the 2nd round. 5 10", 5 11"... who cares? He can score at an elite level. How big is St. Louis? Burke drafted nothing but size, how is that working? If he was 6 1" we would have never got him,Detroit would(Mantha).

Dare say it? We may have Kessel's replacement, I mean backup i.e injury.

As others have noted, Gauthier needs to work on his balance. I thought he looked very mediocre yesterday to put it politely. He has a ways to go.

Verhaeghe may be our saving grace for the 13 draft. I too am very underwhelmed by Gauthier's showing thus far.

Almost potted one at the end of the 2nd there. Johnson, despite being small, has a real knack for the net.

Another Nikolai Borschevsky? If so, I would not be unhappy.

From what I've seen of him here he's not a player I'd be excited about getting after having fell down the charts. Seems like a major head case.

Johnson with a nice screen that led to a goal.

The Johnson-Wennberg-Collberg line does a real good job at cycling the puck.

And that line scores again, Wennberg with nice finish.

Looked like he deflected it. Should also have a secondary assist on Wennberg's 8-0 goal.

Yeah and he + Collberg made the 8th goal happen. Really nice passing by those guys. Frolunda flash.

The more I watch, I see a more skilled Holmstrom.

Fearless in front of the net.

Verhaeghe will still qualify to play next year, but both Johnson and Herzog will be too old.

Gauthier can play again next year.

I called it early. Team Canada sucks balls. No one believed me when I said leaving, Brown, Domi, Nurse, Finn, Poirier and other good players off the team would lead to its demise.

Look at the team now. Can barely beat Germany. Get beat by Czech, get dismantled by sweden.

Domi and Finn should have 100% been on the team. Was shocked when they weren't.

They aren't in Sweden's group. Unless you meant the 3-0 exhibition game?

Maybe I imagined that time Sweden manhandled team Canada last week. The score was 3-0 BTW. Nearly every single player on team Canada looked like trash.

Johnson looks like a better, more skilled version of Horqvist. I like his playstyle.
