Well, I grew up on wrestling and I've taken several years off on multiple occasions, but I always come back. It's really the only thing I watch outside of the Pens/Steelers. My gf and I though did shotgun the entire SH series in about 2 weeks earlier this year. Black Mirror is a great series as well, I should have mentioned that.

The content of his posts has been utterly predictable. My guess is he'll be laughed out of here within a couple of months like every other non-you conservative in here.

Sadly for you, cited sources are a part of the rating process when judging the content of a post, and rightfully so. Not all sources are created equal, and without considering the source, one cannot fully recognize the quality of a claim.

Most of the time, people who complain about sources are just using it as a cop out to avoid actually debating the points made.

Exactly. Dismissing a post based on source rather than content is a favored tactic by many on these boards, and it always comes off as glib and self righteous

True, he hasn't been too bad. He still espouses a bunch of dumb positions though and will likely have a difficult time winning any debates here, like his right-wing brethren before him.

The operative phrase being "most of the time". When the source in question is the Drudge Report, it's 99 percent certain that "the points made" will be dumb, easily dismantled conservative talking points.

Like you wouldn't do it too if people posted something from Daily Kos or TPM without a disclaimer?

Not really.

If someone posts something from the Daily Fail, Faux Gnus or Stormfront, there's no point to debate.

I've made the point before that, if a story is legit, it should have more than one source reporting on it which should mean finding a legit source is easy. If you post a link from a tabloid newspaper, a far right lying machine or a conspiracy website, then that suggests your story is bullshit and/or the poster is an idiot.

Its glib and self righteous when the responses to a post are "Didn't read" followed by a denunciation of the source with no discussion of the issue itself.

Which is fair.

The use of the word "always" in that sentence was in error, then, correct? I mean, it's one thing to dismiss a source without discussing the topic, but quite another to dismiss a source as unreliable within the discussion, no?

Correct. I have no objection to discrediting a source if you take the time to read it and discredit the actual content, I object to dismissing a whole line of discussion based solely on the presence of a link to a questionable source

So you actually expect people to "read and discredit", for example, a Daily Mail article stating that coffee causes cancer?

Not only that, Tim's post wasn't particularly relevant to that particular occurrence (people posting links and others dismissing them). This guy literally admitted he gets much of his information from the Drudge Report. That's even worse than posting a link from e.g. the Drudge Report that may or may not be legitimate. This guy literally welcomes himself with to the forum by letting everyone know he reads the Drudge Report. Maybe he was just trying to lower the expectations in advance.

Then it should be easy to dismantle the source's arguments, instead of posting "lol DrudgeReprort didn't read lol".

Also, drudge report is a news link aggregator. I never go on that website, but if I go now all I see are links to reputable websites like Bloomberg, FT, Breitbart, WSJ, NY Times, etc.

The Drudge Report "aggregates" every Obama-critical, ultra-conservative story out there. That says it all. It's not aggregating anything neutral or non-partisan from Bloomberg or the NYT. Let's not be silly here.

And incidentally, did you just use the words "Breitbart" and "reputable" in the same sentence? Why?

And as expected, it was extremely easy to dismantle this guy's arguments in the few posts he's made. Conclusion: probably not a great idea to get your information from places like the Drudge Report.
