Eric is much better player than Jamie Benn, for example. Jordan is better than Bergeron, too. But couldn't care less. The brothers could use some rest next few weeks. Carolina need fresh version of them for the second half run.

Dreger and McKenzie both have E. Staal as fighting for a position on TSN right now.

Can't see Patrice Bergeron being left off team, especially considering Canada always requires French-Canadians on the team to satisfy the Quebecois.

Skinner is first star of the week again. Paying attention, selection committee?

Already the second time this year, right?

I'd pick him if I were them. Hope he gets hot for a couple of weeks. If he doesn't, fake an injury and replace him with a reserve...

My team (as of a few nights ago) was the same as the McKenzie/Dreger team, except with Staal over Nash (because homerism), Neal over Couture, and Seabrook over Boyle.

The line combinations were different, but the players involved are nearly the same. I had:

Tavares-Crosby-Stamkos
Sharp-Toews-Giroux
Staal(?)-Getzlaf-Perry
Benn-Bergeron-St. Louis
Neal, Duchene

Keith-Weber
Doughty-Subban
Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Vlasic-Seabrook

Price
Luongo
Smith

I probably overlooked Couture, as Neal (at the time) was scoring like a man possessed. I really don't care for Nash as a player, and would personally leave him off the team. Eric's probably not deserving of a spot at this particular juncture. So that leaves one spot open on the team to be filled by somebody.

If Skinner were to hypothetically be on the team, with his goal-scoring prowess...could you imagine a lineup of forwards like this?

Skinner-Crosby-Stamkos
Sharp-Toews-Giroux
Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry
Benn-Bergeron-Couture
Duchene, St. Louis

Assuming Couture is a productive player at right wing, that is.

*Skinner is on the top line because he's useless in a checking role, and Sharp-Toews is a must IMO.*

I'm a big fan of JStaal, but I don't know if I'd say he's better than Bergeron. Has Bergeron regressed a bit lately? I haven't watched much of him this year, so Jordan may have surpassed him by now.

I still think Eric should be selected (pending injury update). He shows up on the big stage and it would be mistake to leave him off. Also, those discussing his contract, you have to look at these contracts through the lens of a small market club. We HAVE to overpay "stars" to get them to play here, there is no getting around that. If you're offered 5 years at $7M per by CAR and PIT, where are you going to play?

Whether Jordan is better than Bergeron or not (#no), there's zero question that Bergeron's game is better suited for the big ice.

Ridiculous. Guess they're trying to tank for a draft pick.

EDIT: So if Canada takes no one, and Ruutu doesn't make it, that leaves Semin and Sekera. Far cry from the beginning of the season when it looked like they may put 7 guys in the Olympics. Too many players picked a bad year to have a bad year.

Based off what I'm reading, Nedved is there to be a coach on the ice. Apparently, the Czech coach tends to wear thin on a lot of players really quickly and Nedved's the veteran guy who's supposed to sort out issues.

Pretty lame

I wanted to see Tlusty make it but he hasn't played well this season, but looking at the guys they left off you have to wonder even if he continued his pace from last year if he would have made it. Looks like they made this team two years ago.

So rather than replace a ****** coach, they waste a roster spot on an over the hill player. Makes sense.

What exactly have they done in the last 10 years? Bronze in Turin, 7th in Vancouver. 2 WC golds and several flameouts. They've fallen pretty far since the years surrounding the millennium.

While tragic, that was only a year and change ago. The Czech struggles predate that.

It was 2011...wasn't really arguing with their struggles, just saying their talent pool was tragically depleted

I'd say a reason for the Czech's lack of success has a lot to do with the fact that they don't have any generational talents in the prime of their careers playing for them anymore. When your goaltending goes from prime Hasek to Pavelec, quite frankly you are ****ed.
