Is it just me...

Or are we a helluva lot younger?

Current roster
Sundin
Stajan
Tucker
O'Neil
Belfour
McCabe
Kaberle
Klee

RFAs
Nik Antropov
Wade Belak
Aki Berg
Pierre Hedin
Nathan Perrott
Karel Pilar
Clarke Wilm

With the dropping of Nolan, Mogilny, Roberts, Domi, Nieuwendyk and Leetch could the days of Depends jokes finally be over?

For sure we are. But depending on who we sign now, we are going to be the "Injury Prone Leafs"

I'm having trouble making a SC contending roster with the players we have now, and $10 million left in cap space...

I'm even having doubts we will make the playoffs with the bolstering Eastern Conference now..

Maybe that's just me being depressed from losing Roberts though.. Sundin lost both of his wingmen.. He must be asking wtf is happening..

We're definately younger.

The more I look at it, it looks like Sundin and Belfour were kept for credibility. But JFJ seems to have a long term plan that involves younger players. Finally the Leafs might try and build this team properly.

Yeah, but usher in the jokes about crappy teams stepping all over us. Unless JFJ pulls a rabbit out of his ass, this roster is going to be considerably weaker than what we iced 2 seasons ago, and if Eddy isn't up to par-- watch out. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I'm actually pretty happy with the idea of a full rebuild anyway.

Ok.. I could live with the rebuilding on a minor note for 1-2 years.

For this year. I think realisticly the UFA's JFJ are looking at are more like a Satan and a Rathje more than a Forsberg and a Foote.

There isn't much room left.

Satan
Murray
Rathje

Good compensation for what we lost?

Well I posted my thoughts in the be a GM thread.

Basically I support signing the following group

Anson Carter
Eric Lindros
Jason Allison
Martin Gelinas
Mike Rathje

Lindros, Allison and Carter can all be had for lower prices due to injury and recent poor performances in the case of Carter. All three are Toronto and area natives and would likely benefit from such. Rathje is an excellent stay at home guy while Gelinas will help replace some of the leadership lost through Nieuwendyk and Roberts, and is still a serviceable winger.

Edit: I refuse to touch Murray. He was a leach off of Thornton. The guy has a shot but thats it.

If we could get those 3 guys. I'd be extremely happy.

the only reason i'd hate to see a full-blown rebuild now is that i want to see sundin win a cup, but not with another team and not as a 40 year-old role-player with the leafs.

but once that fantasy subsides, i'm okay with a youth movement. =)

If anything, at 40 Sundin should hopefully be an Yzerman-like captain. But still, I'm not sure if we can rebuild fast enough for a cup win during Sundin's tenure. If by the time he's 39/40 he has yet to have won a cup, I'm sure I'd be one of many who'd be willing to trade him per his request to allow him to win one.
