As a fan of a team who pays their 4th line enforcer over a million a year, I'd suggest Blues fans should welcome Downey to the fold and be thankful that the team is spending the minimum on a guy who is worth the minimum.

Yes, I am aware of this. However, I don't think Downey is a very good pick to have as part of the Blues' 12 forwards. But that's just my opinion.

The 4th line was pretty set to begin with(Rycroft and RJ) but we needed a energy type guy to finish the line. Downey fits that bill. Personally I was hoping Blake Evans would get a chance but Downey works just as well.

I still expect 2 or 3 more signings from Pleau(one of them being a Ruchinsky/McEachern type) but I guess it is easier to get your fourth line set first.
That's IF we sit Low in favor of Downey. Why do I see our new fourth line as Downey Johnson and Low?

You know it's a slow day as far as signings go when there are 3 pages of replies concerning the Blues signing Aaron Downey.

Well, we did need a guy to be the finisher on Weight's line. I didn't realize we were looking for someone to kill any offensive chance Weight and the other winger created.

As an eternal Blues optomist - it saddens me to say that I will be pleasantly suprised if the Blues have a playoff to worry about this season.

If he can skate just a little faster than Reed Slow then it was worth it.

If not, well at least he is cheaper.

when you have as little $$$ to fill out a roster as the Blues have, you take what you can get.

Problem is - we are paying them both.

Downey is a great character.. Superb enforcer as well. No he isn't a heavyweight, but he'll fight anyone, anywhere at anytime, that's all you could ask.

I love his style, he has fists the size of basketballs..

I will always remember the story when he heard he got to play against his former team, I believe it were the Hawks. When game time arrived and players/staff were getting ready to head to the stadium, Aaron Downey was already on his way, by foote. He was so excited that he walked/ran all the way from the hotel to the Arena. He even walked through some of the tougher neighberhoods of the area on purpose just so he might have an altercation or two to get him even more pumped up.

As for the game, he KO'd Chris Simon and scored his only goal of the season.

There's way more..

Great guy and whether he's a minor contributor to any team, I'm sad to see him go.

I was really hoping the Kings would pick him up. Cowan-Avery-Downey would be a nasty line to play against.

That's a nice story but he never KO'd Simon, he never landed a punch in that fight and in the end Simon lost his balance and fell down with Downey on top of him.

Downey is an average fighter but always willing to go, Low and Downey will give Blues a great 4th line with lots of energy & physical play. Also they will both be making the league minimum so it's not like Blues overspent there.
