Wow, well cross one off the list. Probably would've been too pricey anyways. Rathje, or if he falls through McGillis are names I hope JFJ takes a peak at.

Jackets GM Doug McLean coming up on the Fan after 11:00 p.m. Will be interesting to hear what he has to say about Foote.

McLean just said he doesn't know where that came from. They're working through the process. Say's he'd be a perfect fit. He said I wouldn't go too far on it yet. I wonder if this really is done. The decision is his.

If he did sign. I'm curious how much he got. It will really help set the market for defencemen.

That's a little steep for the Leafs given the cap situation. Rathje would be a better fit then. I have a bad feeling they'll be going after Aucoin though.

Yep, that contract was definitely out of our league, though Foote is one hell of a D-man.

Not a chance that we will get Leetch back, he will definitely be back with the rangers to finish off his HHOF career, which is the way it should be.

I personally hope that we get a gonchar, his offensive skills should be what we need in the new NHL. But after Foote's 3yr 4.5 mill, I dunno what Gonchar's asking price would be.

Still Hopefull

As noted we have enough offense form the blueline. We need a guy like Rathje who can play a solid stay at home game to balance out the blue line.

We have $10million left.

I'm not willing to give half away to one D-Man.

Leafs need forwards, not defense.

I agree, I'd rather see Toronto spend its money on forwards than on defensemen.

If we're doomed to be a loser next year with big holes, I'd rather they be on defense. If it's a toss up between Rathje and Kariya, I'd go with the latter. There's nothing less exciting than a defensive team with nobody but Sundin up front. I saw enough of that junk in the Mike Murphy era.

Better, and closer prospects are on defense anyway.

Agreed, Kariya over Aucoin.

Be just as happy if they signed an UFA prospect.

Prices are going up for Dmen anyways ..

It seems that Brian Rafalski may be the odd man out in New Jersey.
The Devils are making a strong play to re-sign all-star blueliner Scott Niedermayer ($6.8 million per season offer over 2-5 years) but have not made any significant offers to Rafalski. As the talented Rafalski could earn between $2.5-3.5 million anchoring another team's power play, shed no tears for the puck-moving defenseman.

might be why JFj qualified all his d-men.

I was told McCabe was 4th. in Norris voting. Was that a mirage?
