CBJ Alumni Team

After seeing the Alumni Games in Detroit this week it got me thinking about who would be on the CBJ Alumni Team.

What would your Alumni Team look like? This is just for fun, but I would like to add a few rules over how the rosters should be built just to make it interesting.

1. The player must have played with the CBJ in at least two different seasons.
2. The player must have played their last NHL game before the start of the 2012-2013 NHL Season.
3. There should be 3 goalies on your team. One for each period.
4. The players picked do not have to be the best players at that position. Being likable/fan favs is a plus.
5. No negative posts about how bad the CBJ's past players are/were please. This is for fun!

Here is my team:

Forwards:

Vyborny Cassels Fedorov
Wright Peca Sanderson
Huselius Modin Zherdev
Shelley* Sillinger Knutsen

* Going to allow him since he only played 1 game in 12-13

Defense:
Odelein Richardson
Grand-Pierre Spacek
Eriksson Lachance

Goalies:
Leclaire
Denis
Tugnutt

The Defense was the hardest to pick because the best Dman to play for the Jackets are still on the team or are still playing in the NHL. My last cuts were, Fritsche, Dineen and Marchant. Zherdev was on and off the board a few times, but in the end his numbers out weighed any remaining fan dislike.

I'd have to have Dineen on my team, and could live without Z, mainly for the personal reasons.

Alumni coach: King
Alumni GM: DM
Alumni mascot: Boomer

I would probably swap Westcott and Suchy for Lachance and Eriksson.

Are alumni announcers allowed? George and Bill on the radio with Kelly and Konroyd doing TV.

Sanderson - Cassels - Vyborny
Prospal - Knutsen - Fedorov
Wright - Peca - Heinze
Shelley - Modin - Dineen

Richardson - Spacek
Odelin - Wescott
Grand-Pierre - Nummelin

Tugnutt
Leclaire
Sanford

I hate to say this, but this isn't that good of a team when you consider the player's talent when they were WITH the CBJ. Fedorov was an outstanding player, but not nearly as outstanding when he played in Columbus.

Howitzer said it could also be based on popularity - so it's not really supposed to be a good team, just a fun team you'd like to see in an alumni game.

In another year or two, I'll be able to add Ray Whitney and Manny Malhotra to my list.

I also put restrictions in place to make the choices harder. If you did a team made up of anyone ever to be CBJ property that would not be a bad team at all.

It's probably safe to say that Gord Murphy, Claude Noel, and Scott Howson could all come out of retirement to suit up on a CBJ alumni team and actually not look out of place.

That's more of a damning indictment of the first few years of the franchise than praise for those three as players, although I always did like Murphy. He was like a flashy Joe Cirella.

We're not alone. I don't think that Minnesota, Nashville or Atlanta/Winnipeg would have had a much better rosters.

Didn't Heinze bail on the team after first season?

All three of those teams could have Andrew Brunette.

Odelein and Tugnutt.... toss in old man Maclean too... those guys formed the CBJ and I'll say this here, when "they" took away our "RR and Part Two" goal song and messed up the Blue Line bar area they ruined the foundation the CBJ where founded on...

Whatever tradition the CBJ had from year 2000 was destroyed by forces I don't even know... too bad, we had a good thing going back then, the games were fun even if we lost...

R&R Pt 2 was taken away b/c of the performer getting in legal trouble and just about every team going away from it
