can't really believe in one after today's loss...maybe overacting but I wanted minimum 5 points from the three games coming up (CAR, DAL, TOR)

At this point, even though we all do it, I'd say it's pretty hard to look too much at the standings. Realistically, this team needs to finish at like 20-10-10 which would still be a low point total but the whole division is pretty awful. Just string together some wins and the rest will sort itself out and I honestly believe that.

Agree, heading into tonight I thought they had 11 regulation losses left. Now it's 10.

I know I'm going to sound like Captain Obvious but the Isles have too many teams to jump over. Playoff chances-slim to none.

How can a team with bad ownership, terrible defense and horrible coaching that is in the hunt for a top 5 pick in the draft, be considered for the playoffs? It's beyond me. I hope and hope too, I try to be as optimistic as I can, but if you believe in this team, I hate to break it to ya but you're setting yourself up for failure.

A lot has to happen for a playoff run.

Things that could happen

1) Viz comes back and the defense falls in line

2) Strome can adjust quickly and become an offensive factor with 20 points in 30 games or so.

3) Acquiring Max Pacioretty to give us more offense, and giving up futures and Bailey for the trade.

Things that would need to happen but will not

1) Capuano fired, replaced by Ron Wilson

2) Goalie acquisition for platoon with Nabokov

3) Matt Carkner in Bridgeport

4) Casey Cizikas moving up to play with skilled players.

IMO, stop right there at #1. If Vis does not come back you can kiss this season goodbye. For the record I said that the day he went down with an injury, and no I am not a prophet. It was so obvious even Wang had to see it.

I like Vis. But some people on these boards are acting like we lost Duncan Keith to injuries or something.

With a healthy Vis we're not that much of a better team.

I think Vis returning means reduced minutes for others, he is our best dman and not Duncan Keith but at least our best. Vis comes back and Carkner never puts on his jersey again, and you can pair Vis with Strait and use that pairing more and equal out the time distribution.

I agree that our team is better, and I was speaking in general, not saying that you act like he's Keith. But even with his return we might have a handful more points, but we're still a long way from being in the race.

Yes I agree part of a cocktail of things that will have to go right, another thing I would like to see is a goaltending coach, maybe Dwayne Roloson or someone like that who could help.

if Isles can go at least just 3-1-1 in the next 5 roadies, it would at least make it interesting going into the philly back to backs and then the rags. How long can this team go playing like crap in the division? (don't answer, it's already toooo long, i know)

While I agree with ya, last season's structure was different. its apples to oranges. not coming at you personally though. Look I applaud us Isles fans who are so loyal and yes they are not mathmatically eliminated BUT count me out as a beLIever this season its done. Maybe next year IF Wang has an ephiphany toward opening wallet and "axes" to two buffoons in management.

I am optimistic this team can pull itself out of the hole it dug, and even that we might see playoffs at the end of the season; but we are still a looooongshot at playoffs, and this thread will do nothing but bring out the negative people everytime we lose a game.

I just think this subject should have waited until we got ourselves back to 50/50, if we even do.

-We have to perform even better than we did last year-with a worse roster...especially with Nabby down again

-Last year was a shortened season, we have to perform better over a longer stretch of time.

-We need to outperform all of the teams ahead of us-some by a large margin

-We can only compete for 5 playoff spots (3 division, 2 wildcard), as opposed to last year's 6 (division, seeds 4-8).

-We have stiffer competition in the conference. The addition of Detroit alone this season means that if we played under the same setup last year as we do this year-Detroit takes the last playoff spot instead of us.

I understand being confident.....but to laugh at others for stating the obvious?
