-We have stiffer competition in the conference. The addition of Detroit alone this season means that if we played under the same setup last year as we do this year-Detroit takes the last playoff spot instead of us.

I understand being confident.....but to laugh at others for stating the obvious?
Pretty rough scenario when you stare down reality.

Reality, for the most part, ceases to exist on this forum.

We all don't have to be doom and gloom all the time! In reality we are 9 points out and have not been consistent this season. I get it, we all get it by now.

But maybe people want to enjoy this season and have this thing called hope? Last year I'm sure none of us thought we were making playoffs with the exception of a few.

I'm not holding my breath that we make playoffs, but why not have a little fun?

This guy gets it!

Negativity breeds negativity. I am done with it. You all can post about reality and all the negative stuff you want but I do not have to join your parade.

This team needs a big winning streak before i start thinking about playoffs. Winning 4 of 5 is a nice start but losing 10 in a row is a difficult hole to climb out of. Need to get close to 500 before the Olympic break.

I like to be realistic while maintaining hope. All this talk of getting to .500 before the Olympic break...But we've still got 15 games till the Olympics and were 6 games below .500 now! I truly believe we can win 10 of 15 and possibly rack up a few loser points in the process. Most important thing is winning all METRO games and as many ROW as possible. We've gotta slam Philly, Rags and Caps and with this level of play I believe we can do it. Will it take a freak performance on our part and some bad losses for division rivals to get us a seed ?Yes. But is it impossible? No. Without breaking down numbers, lets take it one game at a time. Glad KO will rest during February and spend time with his kid and wife (Even though he should be in Sochi) . Just enjoy the games and have some faith in our team whose been kicking ass as of recent.

If they can make it to 500 at the Olympic break that would be huge. Would also give them a realistic shot.

Put the calculators away and, in the words of Al Davis, just win baby.

One game at a time and anything is possible.

Sadly they need to win something like 9 of 10 or 11 of 12... It is nice to see the fight from this club though. Would we even be seeing the amazing CdH if they hadn't bottomed out? If there was one good thing that came from the hell slump it was deHaan stepping up.

lol.

are you really like this? or is there some sort of award for being the most negative poster? practicing for the part of Scrooge, in the local theatre?

the REALITY is that we have a chance. the REALITY is that you are free to choose to see the glass half full, or empty. the REALITY is that feels a hell of a lot better, basking in the sunshine, than being cooked by some scorching fireball. the REALITY is that you choose to ignore reality.

carry on...

p.s. keep going boys! showing character in the face of adversity. i like it! working hard, and as a team.

You guys know me as being pretty negative toward this franchise despite being a decently loyal fan since I comprehended Isles hockey back in the Easter Epic Year of 1987, however how I try to stay away from watching this team when they frustrate me I keep coming back. I confess that eventhough I said I wasn't goiing to watch last night; I did. Maybe JUST Maybe this teams makes things a bit interesting. I still despise our owner, gm, and coach. That probably won't change. But the love I have for the Isles won't. They are my 1 seed of my fav teams.

Good to see you are still enjoying your "trip". And thank you for being oh so literal.

If we can get Nabby back ASAP and Visnovsky back on our blueline after the Olympics, I'm feeling a lot better about our situation. For now, let's keep the wins coming, but if the playoff situation is looking even more bleak come the end of the month, we need to **** or get off the pot with Vanek and start tanking (again).

HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING, if we were to make the playoffs, would everyone still hate Capuano for being Capuano, and Snow for not firing Capuano and not committing Harry Carry?

Does anyone have a prediction on the benchmark for the playoffs? I know traditionally, I would think 90-92 points is the cutoff for a playoff spot, but with the new format and the fact that the East has been terrible against the West it seems like it would be lower.
Washington has 46 points with 40 games and Toronto 47 points with 38 games remaining and those 2 are the spots the Isles would be looking at getting.
I think it'll be in the mid-high 80's.

It might be a bit lower, like 88ish, but thats just because the whole conference has been pretty bad. I think 94 points is still the bench mark where you can confidently say you're in, year in and year out.
