2 big trades to change the "D"

Weber for 2014 1st, Morin, Hagg, Mez
Buff and Montoya for Streit, Emery, Ghost and 2015 1st

Vinny G Voracek
Harts Schenn Simmer
Read Couts Downie
Raffl Hall McGinn
Rinaldo

Coburn Weber
Buff Schenn
Kimmo Grossman
Gus

Mason
Montoya

Would have just over 771000 in cap space and if both Rinaldo and McGinn are sent down could have over 2.3 m to find a 12th and 13th forward.. I've actually had enough of Rinaldo.. Want to see McGinn instead of him

no thanks. let's just build for a couple seasons.

I doubt either nsh or wpg does either deal.

Those trades are pretty bad for both Winnipeg & Nashville.

Regardless of whether the values there in either trade (I don't think it is), I think Nashville would want offensive help and Winnipeg wouldn't trade Byfuglien when Streit's the main piece coming back.

Both teams would likely be looking for help up front especially down the middle.

Lets be serious here, that's not enough to get Chara. Flyers would have to add a 2nd.

But to OP's credit, yes those trades would help the Flyers.

they would help the next 2 years and hurt the next 5-6 after.

This team drafts so well. why are we trading picks.

If I'm GM of either team I don't do those trades.

Nashville needs forwards, for one thing.

I like how you list the 3rd as the primary piece from the Flyers' side.

How about both Schenn's, Hartnell, and a 5th to the 1999 St. Louis Blues for a young Chris Pronger?

But that still leaves us without Bobby Ryan...

Or just be patient and let Morin, Hagg, and Ghost develop into players that change the D.

People really need to let the whole Shea Weber thing go.

I agree we need some type of trade to upgrade the D, but this will never happen.

The Flyer's brass are gonna let our prospects develop before we are already trading them, I'd like to think.

That's the sensible thing to do, so we can expect it not to happen.

Morin, Hagg & Gostisbehere for Buff

No way Nashville accepts that, need more future value, and probably a solidified roster player.

I imagine Ehrhoff is arguably the most realistic D man to go after atm, 40 points and better D that Big Buff, great value contract, though the length is concerning. Most likely available, Buffalo have little negotiating room, would like to get him if a first can be avoided being given.

But maybe just stay PAT... though I am scared of Kimmo retiring. And Dan Girardi worries me atm, I think he may just be one of those guys who is done 2 years down the line.

If we want Weber I think they would want 3 first round picks or something that would be equal to that using players already drafted. If they trade Weber then It would seem they are I a full rebuild and would want picks or young players. I think for Weber or any other proven #1 dman I would do it, but I wouldn't be upset if we didn't make the trade and kept our picks and players Girouxs age and younger

The way the Weber contract was set up I believe we cooked our goose in regarding hopes to get him back at fair market value... which in itself would be huge... They must recoup their upfront money in talent. They paid so much of his contract already and just trading him in a fair deal is not fair to them in all reality. Why would they even consider trading him now after they handcuffed themselves with the match a couple years ago... Better to have worked out a deal or taken the compensation and leave themselves more solvent IMO. If we want him now we must make an offer that they just cannot refuse... I want a proven #1 that will be Pronger's replacement for years... but not at any cost.

I'm not doubting the Cap numbers but I am greatly surprised that they are that favorable in that deal where we take on high salaries and give up much under the Cap players... How is that possible? I'm too lazy to work out the math at this time. LOL

if it's a garage sale for erhoff, sure. I don't see the point in bringing on marginally better players for anything of value. I wouldn't go after Girardi myself. I believe Streit was brought in to bridge the Kimmo absence gap, although I'd still bring him back if he wants to return. He has his moments, but he is still pretty productive.
