I would love McGuire on TV... Some people I know think his style fits the radio much better and I can't really argue with that, but I wouldn't mind having someone as "intense" as him on TV. He brings emotions into the game and that's pretty much the reason why I watch sports...

That being said, I'll give Séguin a fair chance. His switch to TVA might change his style, positively or negatively...

McGuire would have been perfect for the job, he's, right now, IMO, the best Quebec PBP guy, better than Houde.

I love listening to McGuire.. but it's so annoying when he calls Eller "Heller". A common problem with french canadiens that puts an "H" when there isn't and doesn't pronounce it when they should.

If he's who I think he is, his voice is unbearable. Glad he's no longer with RDS. I'm really hoping they don't snatch up Marc Denis though.

Seguin is very young. I remember Renaud Lavoie being absolutely horrible at the beginning of his career. Seguin is already better than Renaud was at the same time of his career. But if he went for the money then I'm not sure it was a wise move for him because there's still a lot of habs hockey to be aired on RDS.

Money played a role I'm sure. But being the play by play announcer for most (if not all?) NHL games including Montreal... is probably why he's going to TVA sports.

I've really liked Séguin when I heard him call games, I'm happy about the move. Very smart by TVASports in my opinion. He's young and can only improve, too.

Looks like TVA Sports just drafted a rookie that needs some polish, but who has an interesting potential. With good coaching, he has the tools to become very good. We'll see next year if it's too early for him for primetime. You never want to rush your rookies into the big league.

But overall, it's an intriguing pick, when you consider the pool of players that were available.

RDS can only broadcast the 60 Habs games they have now. No more playoffs, no more NHL games. They only need 1 PBP guy so he had to leave anyways.

Meh he's too small, they need to get bigger up front. He's a bust IMO.

Oh wow, I really thought he was being groomed to be the next Insider at RDS to replace Lavoie.

Honestly, I don't like any commentator on TV right now. The only PBP guy that I like is McGuire and he won't come on TV.

Martin McGuire?

At first I really liked him, but I got fatigued from his "over-excited-from-the-drop-off-the-puck" delivery....

He over does every call. Even line changes in pre-season seem like a 7th game, overtime Stanley Cup finals breakaway.

I liked his call ins at CKAC, back in the day. Less biased and overly emotional than most MTL based journalists, but his play by play needs some breathing room.

Sure, he overdoes it sometimes, but, maybe it's cultural thing, but I like my PBP guys to be emotive and, frankly, he does that just fine. Houde is really good too when he wants it, but the commentaries with which he fills the time between two good calls still are without interest.

Gonna call Habs games and the playoffs

He was pretty good in interviews but never liked his PBP skills.

Interview with Kekalainen :

Familiarity. Easier to convince the same market to tune in with familiar faces.

Also, if you can't get #1, you get #2 (which he was even on RDS). Sound business decision by both parties.
