Yeah, all that's left for the Isles this year is....

1) what draft pick do they end up with and do they keep it, and
2) what do they get for Vanek if/when they trade him at the deadline.

Brutal for Isles
I hope not. It'd be such a shame. I mean, if god forbid Toews, Kane, Keith, or sharp have a season ending injury tomorrow, would hawks fans want no more NHLers at the games?

No. That'd be... light treason.

Ya, that would suck. But I don't think I would watch or care about Olympic hockey if the NHLers weren't there. It would be like the World Championships that take place at the end of the NHL season - meaningless.

I would prefer that the NHL players not go.

I just can't see the NHLPA giving up the Olympics. No way.

No way it happens. Olympic Committee and the IIHF enjoy hockey as the main centerpiece of the winter games too much to make it a secondary or tertiary event at the summer games. Not to mention that a number of summer game venues don't have the interest or capability of hosting a major hockey tournament and icing a team.

Or just keep things the way they are and deal with injuries as they come. Every player there wants to be there and knows the risk.

LOL, now you got me thinking what kind of team Brazil would be able to ice for the 2016 summer games.

The owners are the ones who don't want to take the risk.

Read this on Twitter and thought it was a really good point. I took all the tweets and just put them in one quote here. It's an OHL executive commenting about the annual Quebec International Peewee Hockey Tournament. It's a good point as far as people always thinking and clinging to the notion that players are always so interested in returning to their hometowns to play for their hometown teams in their careers when in fact you rarely see that happen and that desire isn't nearly as strong in players as some fans want to believe.

"Among the coaches Rob Blake, Nelson Emerson, Benoit Hogue, Manon Rheaume, Nathan Perrott, Mark Recchi, Rory Fitzpatrick, Al MacInnis, etc, Jaroslav Svejkovsky and Scott Niedermayer. The crazy thing all those Canadian players are coaching US teams. Not one coaching "at home". Think about that when free agency comes around and the narrative that "players want to play at home" comes up."

Vanek is quietly underrated yet roaring back to overrated.

I'm not sure if he's underrated or overrated. He might have peaked too soon though

He's another in a long list of Russians who have attitude problems. I just don't want guys like that on the team.

Thomas Vanek is austrian player and he really hasn't any reputation about being lazy or having attitude problems.

Vanek was always liked by his teammates and coaches FYI.

Either you are talking BS or you think about a different player.

Good to know I can take your analysis of Russian players with a grain of salt from now on.

I've always viewed Vanek as a quiet superstar. He won't really wow you but at the end of the game he has a pp goal and an assist.
