Team Needs

If you were DT, what would your priorities be? If we re-sign all of our RFAs, our lineup today would look something like this (UPDATED 8/2, 2pm):

Frolov-Demitra-Brown
Robitaille-Conroy-Cammalleri
Lehoux-Armstrong-Kostopoulos
Avery-Belanger-Cowan
Flinn, Clarke

Norstrom-Miller
Gleason-Visnovsky
Dempsey-Corvo
Grebeshkov

Garon
LaBarbera
Hauser

I doubt we will re-sign all of the RFAs, and several of these guys obviously belong in Manchester. So who would you sign?

is klatt gone? If not, i wouldnt mind sticking him on a line with with Armstrong again...they were more than solid and can be a very good 3rd line

#1 center (Modano/Zhamnov/Demitra)
Or a quality #2 center with a strong physical presence (Holik)
#1 RW (Palffy/Murray/Satan)
3rd line LW who can excel on the PK (a Niklas Sundstrom type)
Point man for the PP (Aucoin/Schneider)
Back up goalie who could play the #1 if necessary (Burke)

Klatt is a UFA. I'd like to see him re-signed also.

I don't think we've signed him, but don't be surprised if Tambellini makes the team this year.

This is weird...I've been thinking Klatt has been under contract this whole time. Now I don't know.

It looks like the TSN version is upgraded since all the players we qualified are the ones showing under restricted free agents and Luc and Kostopolous are also on it. Garon had a asteric next to his name because we had a team option on him but now he doesn't. According to that our payroll is 14,736,000 for 13 players(but Luc's and Tom's salaries are not included). Even with the restricted free agents our payroll should be 20 million tops.

I think Klatt signed a 2 year deal with a team option for a 3rd year and I guess LA declined it.

If Klatt is gone, then we need 3 top 6 forwards.
Frolov, Robitalle, and Conroy are our only 3 *(Cammalleri and Brown COULD be considered in this genre but they won't get the PT)
You need one defenseman and a backup goalie.

My choices would be:
Satan/Demitra
Kariya
Palffy
Zhitnik/McGillis
Burke

If we we're going to sign 3 top 6 guys lets get Satan, Demitra and Kariya. Kariya wold be the oldest at 30-31. Much better than the 33-34 year old Palffy. Try and get Rathje and any backup not named Burke.

Think anyone would object to us signing Dan Blackburn? I know he had injury problems but he's a great young goalie.

Reap-

I agree. The younger the better. I think those are three great choices. Defensemen could be a little older. I think Zhitnik or McGillis would be good character 3-4 guys that can teach Timmy and Grebs some things.

What about Dan Blackburn as Garon's backup if he's healthy?

I think he was, but isn't anymore. That nerve injury killed his career. I'd rather grab a younger guy to be the backup, a guy like Fernandez. If Garon falters, Fernandez can pick up the slack.

Losing Klatt wouldn't change a whole lot for me because I was expecting him to be a 3rd liner for us. We have some real good 3rd and 4th line players so, maybe the Kings decided they don't want Klatt back and pay him 900+ K. Maybe a Luc-Army-Brown line?

Wow, if Klatt isn't back we should be even younger. I like Klatt, but I wont mind us getting younger either.

Wow, that blows me away. I also that he was under contract. I never liked Klatt before we got him, but he definitely proved me wrong. An excellent third line player to have.

Hear me out, what about a guy like Marty Lapointe to come in for less than $2million to replace Klatt. Little more grittier. Would be a great energy line guy.

Imagine
Avery-Belanger-Lapointe

I'd take a flyer on him for less than $2million. He was overpaid in Boston so he knows he has to put up points to make his mark in the NHL again.

Wouldnt it be better if we took that 2 million and added about 1-3 million to get a pretty good top 6 forward? I think it is and like I said I think we have a good load of 3rd and 4th liners. Luc(I think he will be on the 3rd line), Army(same), Belanger, Cowan, Avery, Kostopolous, and some youngsters maybe a guy like Brown.

I think Lapointe will return to B-town. I'd rather sign a guy like Gelinas to be one of our pk specialists.
