You are 100% right about the NHL hurting their brand. I have had season tickets for 33 years.
I have never been this pissed before. I feel like I was taken advantage of with the pricing and having to buy both games. On top of that I had to sell my Ranger vs. Islander tickets on 1/21 for half price because I couldn't get in to the city from Jersey during the snow storm. This game should have been postponed. I was told by an MSG season ticket rep that the NHL makes the decision whether to postpone a game. Why did they cancel the Philly - Carolina game then and not the Rangers.
Pretty much the only people who could get to the Ranger game were people who were already in the city from work or who lived in the city.

I would have thrown in the hat and scarf if you bought my seats.
Now you have to pay extra for them.

its a supply and demand thing. the NHL can set the price at whatever they want. supply was much higher than the demand for these games as you can tell on stubhub. why wouldnt the NHL price these games like the winter classic? it wouldve been stupid on their part if they didnt.

the ranger islander game shouldnt have been postponed. MSG sits on top of a major transportation hub that allows fans to get to and from the arena very easily no matter the weather. more importantly, the islanders and the officials were already in manhattan. game went on as scheduled as it should have been. same thing in newark.

phillys arena is not near any major mass transit and the officials and visiting team dont stay near the arena making it hard to get to and from the game for them.

I know it's been talked about here but there was never any concrete info on it but the tax break issue is the reason why the Rangers are the road team.

Quote:
A provision of that 1982 agreement stipulates that if the Rangers or the Knicks play a home game outside the Garden, the exemption is forfeited. The city’s Independent Budget Office said last fall that the exemption was worth $17.3 million in fiscal 2014. The 1982 state law granting the Garden a pass on paying taxes stated it “shall continue with respect to such property as long as both of said teams play their home games therein and no longer.”

The law went on to say, “If one or both of said teams shall cease to play their home games in said property at any time, the tax exemption provided herein shall cease immediately and said property shall immediately be restored to the tax rolls.”

It was a right of passage to fight an Islander or Devil fan at some point..... Well at least it was growing up in the 80's and early 90's....... Have times changed?

Hopefully. Punching someone over a sport (or most other things) is a pretty stupid thing to do

Maybe they could be granted an exception if they can prove it would be good for city. $17m+ is a lot though and it's probably more important to MSG/Dolan to sever any potential loophole that could void the agreement down the line.

boo indeed. and I guess that also explains why the Rangers were always the away team for the Europe games.

Is it true or false that NYC law prohibits bars from serving alcohol before noon on Sundays?

You know, I wonder if MSG hasn't already screwed themselves. The Liberty is a professional basketball team owned by them and they played all their home games in Jersey while the garden was being remodeled the past three summers. Maybe they already forfeited the tax break but nobody realizes yet
