Edmonton considering moving Gagner

Today on TSN:
"Eyes on Edmonton

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the Edmonton Oilers would consider moving forward Sam Gagner provided the return was a top-six forward, a top-four defenceman or a starting goalie."

Who is in need of a 2nd line centre?

I could see it happening, but on the lower scale of those requests. So like a #5-6 forward or a #3-4 defence man or a 1b goalie.

Same here ...

So that's really why Edmonton aren't trying to help the team? Just because the evaluation of their players value is off base?

With his production, his defensive play, the fact that he doesn't seem to be suited to center, his size, and his contract, there is no way in hell you're getting any of that.

Who needs bonafide 40-49 point center who is wicked at shootouts and has a lot of fire and passion? Just play him as a winger with good defensive C and you'll like him.

Gagner for Reimer. With the absence of Dave Bolland and the interesting call down of Peter Holland despite doing pretty well for the Leafs we need someone like Gagner. Reimer's potential is being wasted with the Leafs because Bernier is getting all the starts, might as well move him while he's still hot.

Maybe they could move him to the waiver wire? Bottom 6 grinder or mid pick

That's been speculated for a while yes. As a former 1st overall pick I'm guessing they're placing a lot more internal value on Yakupov than any other GM is right now

At 4.8m I can't see him having any value.

Trevor Daley and possibly a prospect for Gagner and a late pick.

Justin Peters and Jiri Tlusty?

Skinner - E Staal - Semin
Gerbe - J Staal - Lindholm
Ruutu - Gagner - Dwyer

Not a bad top 9

That salary will scare a lot of GM's away...

Exactly. Not to mention that he has shown flashes of being a very, very good offensive player. Nobody trading for Gagner is going to think he has first line upside, that ship has sailed. But I think a lot of GM's will look at his skill set, his drive, and will realize that Gagner can help out their team. The Oilers also aren't going to be looking for a star player here, so trading Gagner certainly isn't impossible, despite what many on HF seem to think. He's no Linus Omark, the guy is a legitimate NHL player. He would fit in nicely on a team like New Jersey.

They have been saying the same thing for 3 years along with Hemsky. Ganger at a bigger cap hit makes it even harder to move.

Same news just a different year.

I'd have interest in Khudobin. Not so much in Peters.

If he could be #3C or play wing with JStaal I could see it but Ruutu would have to go the other way for cap along with something.

Doesn't Ruutu have a NTC? His injury history is scary, but he brings things the Oilers are lacking. Might be the basis of a deal here. What sort of + would Carolina have to offer?

The Oilers have never been really open to trading Gagner. He may have been available in the past for a large overpayment, but its not like we've actively been shopping him.
