Its crazy to say... but no.

Something's been bothering me... I heard Jeff Marek go off on his podcast yesterday that there's no way that Canada could send two teams to the Olympics and both medal. I've been irate ever since... He's lucky it wasn't a call in show.
Our "B" squad could definitely beat Russia, Sweden, or the US in a one and done tournament.

Think about it:

Neal Thornton Couture
Hall Giroux Seguin
St. Louis E. Stall Skinner
Lucic M. Richards Burns

Ladd, Eberle

Boyle Seabrook
Giordano Letang
Phaneuf Green

Campbell, Demers

Brodeur
Crawford
Bernier

Really Marek? You should be deported. I'd pitch the C team but that took too long... Lol

Kessel Yes..for sure, specially with the big ice since skating was a big factor in the decisions. JVR no! JVR is close to a Jeff Carter but NO stanley cup ring on his fingers!!
Im very excitted to see Kessel play in that large ice surface with all that room. It would be scary to see kessel play with a legitimate #1 superstar centre, something the leafs will never be able to provide lol

When all Kessel brings is offense he has beat out some 200 ft players.
Yet Carter nor Nash are in that list, and neither are known for their 200-foot play.

Kessel would for sure. He's better than Marleau, Carter, Kunitz, Nash, etc.

There's no doubt. Our wings aren't really our strength to say the least. Anyone who doesn't think Kessel would make it are kidding themselves.

Neither would. Speed or not for Kessel, he offers nothing going the other way and Canada has better options than him for the top 6

I think Kessel would definitely make it, guy has amazing speed for the big ice. Would be a big threat.

Kessel would for sure.

Pure speed, sniper. You make room for a guy like that. Especially on the big ice, even as an extra forward. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

JVR wouldn't make the top 2 team Canadas

I think the Olympics are gonna be a huge benefit for Kessel. His value is gonna go way up because he will prob play with a top line centre and will show how good he would be in that situation. Encourage Nonis to step up and get one or a team that has one to try and get him from the leafs! Kessel with all that extra ice space is gonna be scary!

I think it would depend on what Kessel could bring defensively and how well he would fit in with the group of guys. JVR not right now.

Nash played on the shutdown line last Olympics and did an outstanding job at it, that's probably the primary reason why he made the team again this year.

And isnt Carter going to be a big part of the teams PK?

I think Kessel makes it but then again, I thought MSL would make it

yes Carter probably will be a big part of the pk but what also makes Jeff a better selection is his versatility he can play almost any position including center if need be and can score with the best of them, over the last 4 season's Carters goals per game is higher then Kessel's he's just missed games due to injury.

Kessel doesn't bring anything else.
On the big ice surface I could see Kessel getting the nod over guys like Kunitz for sure, Marleau, maybe Duchene as well since Kessel is a natural winger. I am hesitant to say Nash because he was one of our best players in 2010. He is definitely one of the people that would be debated about forever if he didn't make it.

I wonder if the US does better than Canada this year if we won't be asking if some of our Canadian players could have made the US roster. Nothing like assuming victory when no games have been played yet.

For the record I say Kessel makes it, JVR probably not.

After seeing both Giroux and St. Louis miss out, it's safe to say that Kessel would not make Team Canada.

It's amazing how Rick Nash makes this team despite the fact that he does nothing that resembles a PWF and guys like Giroux and MSL are left out.

Marleau is a very good two-way player just like Carter is. Kessel is competing with Duchene and MSL. Personally I just don't see it being a good fit. In terms of skill and ability alone I think he would deserve a spot. But the issue is also with creating a team that meshes well. Fast playmakers are more valuable than fast goal scorers given the players that are locks. Same goes for players with more versatile games.

If Stamkos was 100% unable to attend I think that might change my answer however. The ambiguity doesn't serve Kessel well considering he isn't very versatile.

I can't decipher Team Canada's decision making process, so I don't know if Kessel would make it or not. JVR certainly not.

JVR is a no. Kessel is a maybe. Depends on what the coach is looking for. Kessel can do a lot of things some of the Canadian wingers can not do, but then again, they can do stuff Kessel can not do.

I think neither would be taken, but that might be flawed logic with the CDN team.

The real question is if most people wouldn't take them, but team USA beats team Canada or comes really damn close again what does that say about our fan base and what we think we know about Canada?

I'm so sick of the "Leafs don't have a player on team Canada so they suck" comments. Ask Detroit how their Team Canada players have worked out for them the past decade...
