People, get your facts straight!

He'll be a UFA in TWO more years AFTER this one if he is not signed.

He will get signed.... 8 years between 8 and 8.5 million per.

You seriously think Bergevin is just going to let him walk... he's not Bob Gainey!

I'm guessing he get's a $64 million 8 year contract with a Modified trade clause that allows him to pick 10 teams he would not accept a trade too.

If Montreal can get Subban for 6+ years at that rate, good for them!

IMO, Subban is worth closer to $10 million/year than $9 million/year. He's that good.

Great view of it, and this is why he can ask what he is.

Maybe they hammer out a deal like Edmonton did with Gagner with a lower salary for RFA years, higher in UFA years. $7M/year for his RFA years, $9M/year for UFA years. An 8 year contract would then be $68M, or $8.5/year cap hit. NTC for UFA years.

As for value, I wonder if Yakupov, Petry and 2014 1st(2nd overall right now) is where it might be at?

#Habs All-Star defenseman PK Subban is expected to sign (soon) an 8-year contract extension worth around $62 million with Montreal.

Not a great source, but we'll see.

if we traded our best player, we'd at least expect one of your best players (Hall or RNH) to be part of that deal.

PK has a terrible Agent if he didn't even get 8 a year.

Didn't this guy tweet that Evander Kane is about to be traded earlier today...Sounds like a dumber version of Eklund with even less NHL connections has arrived.

And what if actually got them both right? Is he credible then, or just got a couple lucky guesses?

I say PK gets 8x8.5 and deserves it as well. He's the Habs heart and soul moving forward. I love his skill set and demeanor. He's fun and entertaining to watch!

well tons of good players could sign for a lot more like Crosby/Malkin could have, but they try to help their team as well.

for an RFA 8x8 sounds right. UFA and we'd be talking a lot more.

8-9 million cap hit per year.

Book it.
Correction: he'll get paid because that's what he's worth, not because he was "so-called" low balled.

would have barely saved anything and he would have been a UFA sooner.

dunno why people keep being stubborn about this.

there are two scenarios:

#1. Michel Therrien has been benching Subban any chance he can get to "lower"
his value and hopefully save the team some money. Its just a rumor that's been
going around that seems pretty plausible, tin foil hats!!

#2. He genuinely thinks its a smart idea to bench him for 10 minutes at the end of
the game over a roughing minor while down 3-1. If this is the case i cant imagine
they'd "want" to do 8x8 or more but they may have to and hate it. I cant imagine they'd
move him but you never know.

Its hard to know what will happen but if they try and low ball him there's a good chance he gets an offer sheet from
the majority of the league, which they will then have to try to match and end up paying out the ass(10-12 million)
anyway and have an awkward situation like "we only paid you that much because we had to." It feels(and i cant imagine
how PK feels) like they just don't know how to deal with the situation. Either hes your guy, he's going to be or he isn't,
and what i mean by that is if you're paying a defenseman +8 million a year hes gotta be on the ice during crunch time, hes
your game breaker, your super star, not the defenseman you don't trust(but hockey Canada does?) and bench him to prove
a point while your team flounders in its own zone. If he isn't then you can get every draft pick and prospect ever from a team
in return lol, if he is then extend him now to what he wants because he will only produce more the longer you leave it.
