Winnipeg - Vancouver

To Vancouver
Andrew Ladd

To Winnipeg
Alex Edler

This offer would be contingent on 1 of 2 things
- Byfuglien being moved for winger (or)
- Byfuglien being moved to forward (which has been talked about lately)

Winnipeg needs a shakeup of their core and I think 1 or 2 of Ladd, Buff, Little or Wheeler needs to be moved. I like the idea moving Ladd because I feel he is more of a top 6 role player than a leader and would be a great fit in Vancouver. Edler has been struggling in Vancouver this year and I feel like he needs a change of scenery. He is exactly what the Jets need on the 2nd pairing to pair with Bogo and gives them a solid top 4 of Enstrom/Trouba and Edler/Bogo going forward.

Thoughts?

So our Captain, whom i agree isnt the best leader, but still a heck of a player, for a guy who has been trending downwards the last 2 years and is signed for 5 more past this one. Doesnt seem like a smart play for Winnipeg. Also we need to address our forward core more so then our D. We need defensively responsible forwards like Ladd.

Ridiculous indeed

first off, he's their Captain

second, Edler's value isnt what it was

I honestly dont think we could do this even if we added a 1st

totally unrealistic proposal

as an aside: lets stop with the Edler proposals, whether we like it or not his value has taken a hit. Van killer whale has it right. Edler is going to have to play his way back to elite status. its not like we have any offensive minded defensemen to take his place anyway.

All we are doing is making ourselves look like fools arguing he's better than he's looked.... nobody is buying it

though id love ladd on the Canucks

God damnit. Winnipeg needs top 6 forwards, and have a slew of good defensemen. Why oh why would they trade their captain for ANOTHER defenseman?! Value aside, we aren't trading with other teams in a bubble, their needs need to be taken into account as well. We aren't good trading partners, the *ONLY* reason Kane was a potential possibility is because there was talk that he may have fallen out of favour.

I'd pass to be honest. would rather deal futures for a forward than Edler, unless it's a star or potential star player.

Not bad. Mostly because you preface it with WPG getting a forward for Byfuglien to replace Ladd. End result being lateral moves.

Only quirk would be that you would get Edler for longer. I don't know how that would balance the deal, but that's the difference in compensation.

The growing sense is that only Buff will move. Not Ladd/Kane/Wheeler. If that's true, then perhaps a swap of Edler and Buff could work.

What about Jones (potential solution in Net for the jets but stil unproven), Pearson (prospect with top 6 potential) and 1st for Ladd from LA

I doubt they would take that offer as mentioned by other posters. At least you didn't get dog piled by the two Jets fans that always scream "OMG INSULTING OFFER STOP OFFERING SCRAPS" in every trade thread.
Plus, I'd rather hold on to Edler as his value is at the lowest point right now. He will bounce back. He is signed to an 5 year contract with an amazing cap hit and is in his prime.

It's all a moot point anyway, Edler would not waive his NTC to play in Winnipeg. Nobody on the Canucks would, except Hansen maybe.

I think it was well thought out, which didn't warrant a "dogpile". Poster is also from WPG, and not VAN, so that helped too IMO.

Anyway, yes, I agree that Edler probably won't waive. Before even that though, Gillis would have to ask him to waive, and I don't see that happening either.

The largest salary move VAN can make without having to ask a player to waive is to move David Booth. Beyond him, there are lower end salaries like Hansen/Higgins/Tanev, who either have limited NTCs or none at all. That's why you keep seeing them in proposals.

No thanks. I would rather have Edler.....much rather. Lets just all agree Canucks and Jets have nothing to trade each other.

Not a chance. Canucks dont need a poor defensive defensemen. Canucks need scoring. Zero interest in buff.
