Reto Berra

I'm curious what's HF's opinion of Reto Berra's value around the league?

The Swiss netminder plays for the Calgary Flames.

He has a sub .900 sv% in the NHL and is an UFA in the summer. He has no trade value.

He had a really good start to the year. Not sure what's happened recently, but for awhile, he looked good.

I wouldn't say he has no value, but he needs to play more than just this year and he needs to be more consistent. Athletic and inexperienced

Like Berra, but he's got a lot to work on to become a solid NHL goalie. Rebound control and angles being the biggest issues as well as being overly aggressive at times. Works and competes extremely hard and is a real good athlete. Can't see many teams being interested unless it's a bad injury situation. 3rd or 4th rd pick is likely his value.

You need a team that actually has a reason to add him. He's not even experienced or consistent enough yet to be seen as an upgrade to a back-up goalie. Unless it's on a team who has more than enough time to develop their own players around that and no intention of changing their fate. Which is why he's getting his chance in Calgary.

Flames fans make me laugh when they say they have goaltending. Berra has no value and Ramo is more of a back up

get Neuvirth if they can. WSH and McPhee was talking to Burke recently no?

waive Berra and yea he likely doesn't get claimed. Hes ahead of Joey McDonald and that's not saying much

Decent backup, but goalies in general pretty much have no value unless they're proven, consistent number 1s.

If the team gets shut out in 5 of 7 games it really doesn't matter who the goalie is. There's absolutely no point in the Flames giving up assets for a goalie when they won't win regardless.

Berra doesn't have much value at this point. I think it makes sense to keep him rather than move him for a 6th rounder or something. He's big and athletic. His positioning and net awareness are atrocious. If he's coachable and will work, he could still pan out. He definitely has the physical tools.

Exactly. If we don't have a goalie developed in 3-4 years we need to go get one. Not now. Ramo and Berra are fine as placeholders.

If the Flames were worried about their goaltending, they'd likely just call up Ortio and give him his shot. He's been decent in the AHL this year.

Again though, goaltending is hardly the Flames' biggest concern at the moment. When all is said and done I expect they'll be last overall and in line for either Ekblad or Reinhart, which isn't really a bad thing.

As a goalie, it's hard to win games when your team isn't scoring. That said, you shouldn't be letting in 5, 6 six goals a night.

Berra's allowed "five, six goals" exactly three times in his (admittedly brief) NHL career...

The Blues were never willing to give him (or Konstantin Barulin, for that matter) a real chance, so I'm happy to see him get a shot with the Flames.

I was speaking more of Berra AND Ramo in general. My apologies.

Tampa offers future considerations and a few pucks signed by Stammer and Marty

Both goalies had been playing decently until the last 2-3 games.

Even now they don't look that awful. Calgary's PK is absolutely pathetic and is a big reason for many of the goals.

What did Lababera get from Edmonton? That is what Berra is worth.

I'd rather just keep Berra, guy has been fairly decent considering the team in front of him.

Konstantin Barulin was offered at least 2 real chances, most recently in 2011 by Doug Armstrong, and he just wasn't interested in leaving Russia.

I wouldn't say he has no value... but it's so low that it makes no sense for Calgary to move him unless he's part of a bigger deal.

Anyone claiming he would pass waivers hasnt watched him. He isnt great but he isnt AHL level bad.

Edmonton and NYI would pick him up in an instant.

His value is probably a 5th.
