Brian Leetch to the Bruins

www.bostonbruins.com
The Boston Bruins have agreed to terms with defenseman Brian Leetch on a one-year contract, it was announced today by Bruins General Manager Mike O'Connell. Leetch was an unrestricted free agent, and in keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Leetch, 37, was the NY Rangers' first pick, ninth overall, in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. He played one season of college hockey at Boston College with 9-38=47 totals in 37 games in 1986-87 and earning Hockey East Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors in addition to Hockey East First Team All-Star and NCAA First All-American Team berths. He spent the 1987-88 season with the U.S. National and Olympic teams, with 13-61=74 totals in 50 pre-Olympic contests that year and 1-5=6 totals in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary. He turned pro with the Rangers at the conclusion of the Olympic Games.

Very nice signing. A one-year deal is probably best for both parties.

That is a huge pick up for the Bruins. Their site was correct with their signings yesterday. Do they still have room for Modano Samsonov and the rest of them ??

I'm glad Leetch is here and glad it is only a one year deal. He, like Nashville's logo, is getting long in the tooth.

Now sign Modano and we'll be America's team!

Boston has been impressive this off-season. I can't see Thornton wanting to leave now because of a lack of support. I commend them, though we'll see how the team gels during the season.

Man, Ekluns's on fire! First Gonchar and now Leetch...What's more impressive is that he said that Modano's deal is far from been done when legit sources like TSN.ca had him signed with Dallas.

Very good signing for BOS.

With everything that BOS has done this offseason, BOS better hope that Raycroft holds his own. He will face tremendous pressure this year because of the upgraded roster, the expectations that come with it, AND to repeat his first NHL season performance (or something close to it).

All of these stories about the Bruins free agent signings (and Aucoin in Chicago too) are LIES!!! Doesn't everyone remember? No one, and I mean No One will sign with either of those teams because their owners are such a couple of mean guys!

Looks like the B's are really serious about making a run this year. All these free agent signings are nice but I think it's still going to come down to two guys - Thornton and Raycroft. They dominate in the playoffs and Boston has 3 championship teams in a year and half.

You mean Saku Koivu and Jose Theodore dominated in the playoffs, right?

and don't forget cheap.

I love this signing. Especially the one year. The Bruins have at least 3 to 4 kiddie D-man to sort out as a future PP QB . This buys just the right amount of time.

You got it Wally, one year sounds about right to me. If he still has it after this season, then you try and get him to stick around for a while longer.
