Something Random To Read
In honor of everyone's favorite goalie de jour, some random stuff about German hockey ... Greiss was drafted by the San Jose Sharks from die Koelner Haie, the Cologne Sharks of the DEL, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. They play at the Lanxess Arena in the Deutz neighborhood in Eastern Cologne. Their current coach is Cologne native and former Av / Sabre / Red Wing / Thrasher / Islander Uwe Krupp, who played 4 years for the Sharks in the early 80's. Much like the Edmonton Oilers, those 1980's were a high for Cologne, winning the German championship in 1984, '86, '87 and '88. Apart from our beloved backup goaltender, Udo Kiessling is probably their most famous hero. A member of the international hockey hall of fame, he won 6 titles with the Sharks, the four above + 1977 and 1979, scoring 781 points in 25 seasons with Cologne, Fuessen, Duesseldorf and Landshut. Cologne's biggest rivals are DEG, who play 25 miles north in Duesseldorf.

Finally DT pulls clutch. Hopefully this is the wakeup call Smith needs.

Audio about Greiss/Smith -> http://chirb.it/gnyJn3

Here's to another strong performance from Greiss, and a new Smith when he gets back in net.

Let's play "name that starter"

.937 1.89 GAA, 1 SO
.910 2.90 GAA, 0 SO

Now, one third the sample size, but that's not an aberration. Here's hoping for another shutout to force the issue.

edit: Greiss' stats are almost the best in the league.

Can we let David Rundblad play, or is that asking too much again?

I have Getzlaf and Hiller on my fantasy team. Hope they don't do well today.

Still no Ducks GDT, their 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines are 100% guess.

That's what I always find my line combinations on.

The "Pizza goalie" made me chuckle.

Hope we win a 2-1 or 2-0 type of game so Pizza goalie doesn't get back in next game.

Only place they are available is behind the pay wall on OC Register. Our GDT's usually go up late, and are minimalistic. It is what has been working so far this season.

Ducks are a pretty intimidating team, no obvious weaknesses.

But if we can shut down their two big guns, they become much more easily tamed. This is the type of game where you wish Z was around. Hope Murphy is up to the job tonight; he might be the only one on the right side that has a hope of containing their big line.

Yeah; that's the one thing, other than putting in Greiss, I think would shake up the team a bit. Stone and Morris really have been coasting recently; it's about time to give Rundblad a 5-10 games of look. That will be necessary for his continued learning of the NA ice and his development. If everything works out, he might become another offensive force besides Yandle that can rejuvenate the transition game.
