Big Game Story: This is the first of two games between the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. They meet again Jan. 18 at Joe Louis Arena. Detroit is clinging to a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs while trying to tread water through a spate of injuries that never seems to end. Los Angeles is 2-0-1 since a season-high five-game losing streak. The Kings still hold the third spot in the Pacific Division, but the fourth-place Vancouver Canucks aren't far back of the division's final guaranteed playoff slot. GO KINGS GO !!!

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Wake Rick up by giving him carter back. Yes, you break up that top line but you need two scoring lines, not one.

How about no. Our best line shouldn't be broken up for Richards to feel comfortable. He's a highly paid vet, he needs to figure it out himself.

Why buddy, why? Why would you want to break up the best line the Kings have had in probably a decade? Why would you want to split up the Kings two star forwards and play each of them with a struggling player?

I don't think it's going to happen, looks like Sutter has finally realized how special 11 and 77 can be (about time)

Plus, each guy from the 2nd line has been able to score the past 3 games, so maybe that is starting to come around.

Hopefully Toffoli, Richards and Frattin can eventually break out of this funk, but they are going to have to do it together, from a 3rd line role. None of them belong in a top 6 role right now, and I think DS knows this. The TOI at even strength tells the story.

one of the Detroit writers suggests that for most NHL teams the 'California Death March' usually ends up with a 'bugs on a windshield effect'.

Detroit has a bunch of injuries and Howard's has been struggling. The Kings should keep some of the intensity they showed in the last game and go for a solid win that includes a 2 or 3 goal lead going into the 3rd. And I hope they pot at least 1 in the first, they have a pretty good record when they score first.

Go Kings

I hope Frattin stays on Richie's LW. Let them get more comfortable together and for God's sake, keep Lewis and Clifford off that line.

It's not like Sutter has a lot more options right now but Frattin isn't an LW and didn't even seem comfortable in the Kings system as a RW. He's not the answer, right now he's the rotating pylon of the week.
Until that elusive LW problem is solved and a legit LW arrives in CA, that is a 2 man line. And TT like every rookie has peaks and valleys. Right now he's in a valley but he should rebound soonish. Maybe today is the game where he gets a solid goal and the winds are back in his sails.

What?! Did you forget about Brown-Kopitar-Williams? I thought that was the best line in a decade.

I was lobbying for this to, last game was somewhat of a breakthrough for everyone, but I wanted to see Richards and Carter reunited.....also wanted Brown back with Kopitar to get him going as well.

Stop with this ****. Finally Kopi has a scorer on his wing and you want to take that from him, because others are playing like ****. Hey lets put Kopitar with Clifford and Lewis so other might start playing better. How much does Kopitar have to sacrifice for this team? Let others sacrifice something for him not the other way around.

What the hell are you talking about, Williams wasn't leading the team in goals at one time playing with Kopitar? This isn't about Kopitar, it's about getting Richards going, why is that a bad thing?

Did everyone forget before the last game we couldn't score any goals??

Uh oh, seems like the Kings always lose to teams with injuries and question marks in goal. I'm more confident in the Kings beating quality opponents than struggling ones.

I'm talking about elite goalscorer, which J-dub is not. It's not, but Richards has to realize that this is hockey and not Hollywood romance movie. He has to get used to not playing with Carter and figure something on his own. He is good enough to do so. Kopitar linemates where constantly changed trough his career except with Brown an J-dub and now with King and Carter. and he has to change them again, because Richards can't put his **** together. Maybe he should first fix something about his goal against. Richards not playing with Carter is not his biggest problem.

You know what else is comical about this...20 games ago, the majority of posters here would have probably preferred to have King shipped back to Manchester. Now, he's part of the best line in the NHL?

Where did you read that King is part of the best line in NHL? It is comical indeed. I'm just tired of babysiting Richards and handcuffing Kopi again, because of that. Kopitar is always the most criticized, when he is not producing, while others almost get a free pass.

Omg Richards is not producing. Lets put Carter next to him to get him going. Omg Kopitar is not producing. We should trade him while we still can. Kopitar is still useful when not producing. Richards not so much. His even strength play has gone down the toilet since cup run. I have nothing against Mike. Double standard pisses me of.

You're acting like Williams is some scrub. Carter can and has proven to be able to score with both kopi and Richards. There's no double standard about ****. If the kings become a 1 line team, like Dallas, they are screwed.

No sane person is going to break up Carter and Kopitar for Richards. This is Richards own battle to get himself going. Funny though, seems like the most important play forwards we have are Carter and Kopitar. Kopitar can set up anyone, and Carter is a scorer.
