Nylander is like my favorite player in this draft. People shouldnt be listing him as a possibility at #17. He will probably go top #6

Yeah no thanks to Honka. The value isn't good at #17.

Also the track record of taking undersized offensive defensemen in the first round is pretty iffy. You can find a similar player in the second round & take on less of a risk. Honka himself could even fall to the second round because of these reasons.

I have seen him in the 9-11 range in some rankings. If he falls that far, we should move up to grab him.

What would it take to move up to 9? Lecavalier + 3rd round pick+17th pick?

First & second rounder likely.

It's really not worth to move out of #17, there isn't really much separation in this draft. Plus we really need to keep some picks, we don't have our third this year nor our second & third next year.

Don't see any reason at all why Vinny would waive his NTC to go to WPG...

Yes but we gave ours up to New York. Boston's is basically at the end of the round while ours is in the middle.

Meh I really don't think there's any player in this draft worth to move up a lot for. Anyway I doubt he drops there plus a 1st & 2nd may be a little light for a team to pull the trigger on that deal.

Yeah that's a head scratcher there. I had to look it up to see who's pick it was but at first I was assuming that was Nashville's pick but they're at #11.

Yup. 11 works for me though. Hell, they can have Grossmann too.

Ya, if Nylander fell to around 10 or 11 I would move up at all costs. Love him. Also love Fiala and Vrana.

how about we keep future 2nd and 3rd round picks and try to draft some flying-under-the-radar forwards with skill?

The Phantoms roster is loaded with reclaimation projects, undrafted players and bottom of the barrel scraps which is clearly not the winning environment for young players Hextal is talking about

Well honestly the common misconception is that the good AHL teams are filled with top prospects. This just in not true. Most of the good teams are filled with 50-75% AHL vets. The way the Flyers havent signed any undrafted UFAs so far and the way Hextall talked about the Phantoms, wouldnt be surprised if they go 50-50 vets and rookies.

Good thing we use our 3rd round picks on players like Ghoul.

Waste of pick, and people are just being ignorant if they can't see that. If it was a 5th rounder okay. But it wasn't. If we keep making picks like that why even keep our 3rds.

You can't really call it a waste of a pick until it actually turns out to be that. Sure, there is a lot working against him to ever make the NHL, but the same goes for other 3rd rounders. You don't have to like the pick, but he could very well turn out to be an effective fourth line player. Could he have been drafted later? Perhaps, but the Flyers didn't seem to think so. No point in acting like a different player that you really no little to nothing about would have been a better pick because at this pick, as far as I know, no one chosen after him has played an NHL game yet...

Jake Virtanen out 4-6 months with shoulder surgery.

If he fall to 17 should the Flyers be interested?

If his shoulder injury is something he can come back from and not be a problem for the future, I would jump all over him at 17.

From what I understand, he has possibly the best wrister in the draft. Looks like a bit of a project, especially with the injury now, but I wouldn't at all be opposed to picking him.

EDIT: He's also an August birthday, so he's pretty young. Got that going for him.

I'm confused, is he saying ghost was a waste of a pick?
