I fail to see how they're going to do this, unless if they're moving pure draft picks.

Their three best prospects have either established roles (Ceci, Lehner) or are not being moved. (Lazar) What the hell is left? Zibanejad would be the only one left, but i really don't think Ottawa moves him.

Unrelated but i should do a study. Post a mundane trade rumor/proposal and see how long it takes to get "X for Edler?" back

if u dont want to move high-end talent, you won't get anywhere near contending anyway

What would the Sens want from SJ for Weircoch or Cowen?

Getting out of the east and in the final 8 is not a contender. Sure, anything can happen once you get to the playoffs, but the Sens winning it this year if they get #8 seed for example, would be a long shot.

I'd be surprised. Our cap was like 50-55 mil but with the weak dollar it might even be going lower

Does buffalo have anything realistically worth both of them? I'd like Moulson. Interesting to see his asking price if they decide to move him. I'm sure they would want something similar to the deal earlier in the year, but I would have to imagine his value has slightly diminished not playing with a center of JTs caliber.

I really hope it's not true. We aren't one or two players away from competing, and if they move our youth now it's gonna kill us down the road. I think the untouchables should include, Ceci, Lazar, Zib, Lehner. Cowen is gonna need an overpayment to get. Obviously Karlsson isn't moving. I'm up for moving anybody else. But please, management, don't sacrifice the future.

its like one of those threads u see on this board wanting a star player but putting all the pieces of value off limits. ready to move youth except for the good players? no Lazar, Ziba, Ceci..

With some help coming from trades I don't see them at 8th. With a strong finish we could end up easily at 4th-5th and maybe 3rd in the East.

I don't think he means this year, probably talking about the next 2 or so years.

If Ottawa is serious about contending, they need maybe 2-3 pieces:

XXX-Spezza-Stone
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Conacher-Zibanejad-XXX
Greening-Smith-Neil

Cowen-Karlsson
Methot-Ceci
XXX-Weircioch/Borowiecki

Basically we need a sniper to play with Spezza, a third line scoring winger (preferably a veteran), and a top 4 defensemen.

They might be able to get the 3rd line winger and top 4 defenseman through free agency, but would definitely have to deal for top 6 forward.

If Ottawa could add someone like Jagr and Derek Morris that would be perfect.

Brad May said Murray offer Greening and Gryba for MDZ so i highly doubt he bumps it up to Zibanejad

Ceci got promoted and he's playing top 4 now. We would be looking for a Methot type D. 25-27 year old, some speed and physical. He doesn't have to be a PMD.

The thing i dont understand is how are we going to add payroll if were already over budget
None of those players have enough value to bring in what you want.

I'd kill for Zibanejad but I presume he's not going anywhere.

We don't need a star.

It could be a Methot/Foligno trade. And we ''probably'' could take salary back as well.

Milan Michalek could be welcome in Phoenix; Teams like Calgary, Columbus, Florida, Buffalo, Winnipeg would be good trade partners.

Yes, they are not contenders. Anything can happen in the playoffs though. Were the kings cup contenders the year they won the cup?

I would do a deal around Wiercoch for Moulson, though I think Ottawa would have to add something small. We're pretty good on defensive prospects, but we need a guy who can run a PP. Wiercoch has nice point totals for a defenseman, but can he run a PP?

I bet we could get a Camallaire, a Wideman or maybe a Gaborik for assets like that.
