It basically hinges on whether MT and MB would accept such youth in our Dcore. If Diaz is re-signed, then we'll be hurting ourselves because it'd be hard to move him and eventually we need to just give our guys a shot.
If going to FA/Trade route, we need to go hard for Girardi. This guy might be expensive, and while we have money tied up in our Dcore, getting rid of Murray/Diaz/Boullion's combined salary should make it okay considering the rookies won't be a cap issue.
We need a veteran defensive guy, RH shot, size and a fit for MT's shot blocking system.
-Gorges would excel at 3rd pairing duties
-Girardi Gives us the much needed second righty in our top4
-Emelin Finally gets to play LD, where he can benefit from staying back for Subban to rush, while providing more of an offensive threat that Gorges, thus teams will have to play PK differently.
-Markov remains with a physical guy who will benefit from the Markov effect
-Slower transition for the young guys, but they will get their shot.
Like I said it might seem risky to tie up so much $$$ in the Dcore, but with the cap going up it should be fine, and as Gorges contract goes on he will be very tradeable when the rookies become regulars.
Still wish we could've seen Emelin come back before we signed him to that deal. Losing faith in MB..
No doubt that was a head scratcher. Why sign a guy to a deal while he's still out with a serious knee injury? They should have waited to see him play (which has been sub-par) and would have been able to get him at a lower cost and maybe shorter term.
Who cares about the Leafs? How do you improve when you use bad teams as a measuring stick?
You said our defense is terrible and I showed you an example of what terrible is. Obviously the Habs defense is nowhere near the Leafs...so they are not terrible. You won't find 10 better defense cores in the NHL this year.
Like usual you talk out your a$$ with no semblance of logic.

Obviously someone younger would be ideal but with so many young defense coming up it'd be better to get someone on a short-term contract.
The issue with Diaz IMO is he has not been the secondary scorer he's supposed to be. And while his positioning and stickwork has improved, if he can't produce points (or hit the net) he has to go and we should let Beaulieu and Tinordi replace his contributions for much cheaper, while bringing other dimensions to the table
Oduya Ference Mitchell Scuderi Salvador Fayne were top 4 guys on teams that got to the cup final. Goirges is easily as good as those guys.
Gorges overall is in their class, sure. but he lacks the physical element to his game and if he's going to be a #4 on a contender, there would have to be a hell of a top3 ahead of him.
-Gorges has to stop being Subban's partner, I'm sick of it. With them together, we just play not to lose (which causes us to lose)
-Gorges should be a #4 at best, and that's while being paired with the right kind of partner.
I like Gorges, but as depth. He doesn't have the talent to be a big cog in the machine. He certainly has heart, but that isn't talent.
Thought about this for a bit.. Markov.. lets not Rush it, wait until after the Olympics and another month afterwards or even summer. Is Markov just a stop gap for now? at some point we have to play Tinordi and Beaulieu. if just a stop gap, perhaps we should part company.. with all due respect of course!
Does anyone think Ellis has a chance at making a push for next season?
I've always been a fan of Ellis, but at this point I don't see much opportunity for him with the habs as long as Tinordi, Beaulieu, and Pateryn are around. I'm thinking he gets traded in some kind of package deal.
