Waiver draft Friday: Trades/Suggest a trade or pickup...key rules to know.

Today's the day for the waiver draft. We find out if Czerkawski, Timmander or any of the other players unprotected will be leaving.

Is two goals last night worth a pickup to another team?

The trade freeze ends with the waiver draft, so teams will be setting final rosters.

Does Milbury expose Korolev/Butenschon and pick up a player he likes from another team?

Key rules to know:

Teams cannot select an unprotected player from another team in their own Division during the first round of the Waiver Draft.

First round is for non-playoff teams.

When one team selects a player from another team, the selecting team must take a player off their protected list .

Arron Asham, F; Adrian Aucoin, D; Shawn Bates, F; Jason Blake, F; Sven Butenschon, D; Eric Cairns, D; Roman Hamrlik, D; Kenny Jonsson, D; Evgeny Korolev, D; Oleg Kvasha, F; Justin Mapletoft, F; Radek Martinek, D; Janne Niinimaa, D; Mark Parrish, F; Michael Peca, F; Dave Scatchard, F; Jason Wiemer, F; Alexei Yashin, F; Rick DiPietro, G; Garth Snow, G.

The team that lost the player has the choice of claiming either the newly-unprotected player (who they must place on their protected list or he can be claimed again) or the selected player's waiver price. If the team that lost a player chooses to accept the waiver price, that team can then protect another player.

A team cannot lose more than three players or one goaltender.

NYIsles1 - I think we now know why MM put Korolev on the protected list. If isles lose Chow/Timmander, we sustain the regular course of the draft. However, if MM decides to bite on a player (let's use Novo for example), then he must expose someone from the protected list: aka Korolev. He was protected for this sole purpose.

The Isles will not bite on a player and expose any other player on their protected list, including Butenschon. Are we overvaluing him? Maybe/maybe not, but he will be our 7th d-man at a great price which is what the Isles want.

I commend MM for protecting Korolev. It's a very smart move that has perplexed many on this board. He gave himself the option of picking up a player and exposing a player that the Isles have no plans for.

My guess is this: Timmander goes to a non-playoff team or TOR. If Chow goes before Isles pick, does MM go for Novo?????

I say Isles do nothing at this draft, try to lose Chow/Timmy contracts and save that money for a trade deadline deal.

Maybe a few conflicts so I used two sites for the waivers taken.

Blitz, In the end I think Milbury had the right strategy and kept an option open (Korolev) if he found a player he wanted, looks like he did not find anyone he wanted.
