Why am I not surprised? I'm certainly not impressed. An old-at-the-end-of-his-career-comes-cheap type player. What next? An injury-prone-but-comes-cheap type player? Is this the best you can do Larry er I mean Darcy?

If he's cheap I'm not opposed to this. But they still need a first pairing guy.

Hey, now -- let's not be knocking JP. Yeah, he's pretty old, but as of the beginning of this offseason, I think he's our 2nd best defenseman, and a hell of a worker. I *hope* James Patrick will be back in some role or another.

Signings shouldn't be this painful.

A reliable RHer. I can't complain. At least he knocks Campbell out of the top 6. We still need a top dog to pair with Kalinin though.

Decent move, better not be Zhitnik's replacement. I'd still like to see a Hamrlik or Rafalski move to go with it.

5 years ago this would have been a good signing. Not now.

I hope all the people moaning that we aren't signing anyone are happy now.

If we get another high end guy, this move will look very, very nice. Numminen is a nice fit to round-out the d-corps.

I take it as a sign that he's actually doing something. But that's it. A 37 year-old defenseman is not the answer that I or many other fans are looking
for. I hope this is just the beginning...

I like JP. This is a similar type of signing in that we are acquiring a player who is past his prime, yet plays a reasonably safe game and fits nicely in the 3rd pairing.

Would you be terribly surprised if Teppo is the high end guy?

Just listened to WGR on their 20/20 sports. Said we signed Teppo, but nothing on Allison

Allison would be a bad signing IMO. Far too injury prone, likely to be overpaid. I don't think he will be as effective in a more open, flowing NHL even if he is fit.

We should be concentrating our remaining FA budget on Roman Hamrlik, or another good D-man. Or just go down the trading route.

I was more than happy not to make any kneejerk signings. As long as we put a good team out in October while keeping in good financial shape.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have a hunch this Allison "rumour" is bunk though.

Well, I hope this signing is cheap and short, but short is more important obviously. Anything more than two years is no good. Assuming it is 1 or 2 years at a fair price then it is a good move. Numminen is a vet who can play some minutes and teach some guys. This team needs more vets (which is more important for defense on a club IMO), don't underrate that.

Someone mentioned Patrick as if it were a bad thing. Patrick has been a very solid player for this organization and if Numminen turns out as good we shouldn't be complaining.

I always liked Numminen's game, though he's clearly past his prime.

At any rate, welcome back to life Mr. Regier.
