Roughly 60 games into it. The team hasn't even hit rock bottom yet. But there's already more than a few complaints. People really need to understand that this is a four or five year process. Things are going to get worse before they better - that's how rebuilds work.
Absolutely this. What did people expect? Next season will be worst than this one. The bandwagoneers will be gone and the die hards will remain because they know what the end goal is. What we cheer for today is tomorrow.

Unless we bring the entire Abbotsford Heat roster up I don't think that will happen.

I'm more worried about Burkes impatience and making moves that make this team better. Is that bad? No. But Burke won't sit back and watch this team finish last next year. Hopefully he has no choice.

I don't care if Burke makes big moves, but it better not be coming at the cost of our future. I think he's learned from that though.

I was very skeptical of the rebuild until watching Monahan and realizing how good he could be in the future, it's definitely gonna be a tough road for the next couple years but I'm ready for it, it'll be worth it in the end as long as its done properly and not rushed.

Next season is going to be very interesting. Might be as many as 8 - 10 teams tanking
For McDavid. Calgary will be bottom 5 along with Buffalo, Florida, Pheonix and Winnipeg. I expect Edmonton to actually improve next season.

Am I the only one that's scared of Brian Burke being in charge of things? It could be my biased opinion of the Leafs, but I don't see what he did while there as actually making them much better at all. While in Vancouver, he made them respectable but not good enough. With the Ducks, he made them better for a short period and then they dropped off drastically after that.

I was also looking through all his trade history and I see a few good trades he's made, I don't see him fleecing the other team out of everything, besides the Phanuef trade. If you don't believe me, take a look.

Phoenix and Winnipeg should be infinitely better than the Flames. If the Jets play under Maurice continues, they'll be decent, they also have the potential to have an elite D. Phoenix is always competitive under Tippet and their young pieces are coming along nicely as well. The team that may fall back there is the Jackets IMO, but Murray and Johansen are looking like studs, their season will rely on Bob. The Panthers are picking it up to, Barkov will be older and will Huberdeau I think will have a breakout in a big way next year. Gubranson and Olsen are nice young dman as well. I agree the Oilers will be better, sucking next year will not be an option, jobs will be at stake. I really think the Flames and Sabres will be in a dog fight for last place. Of course, that's just my opinion..

Well if I make a statement about us tanking, that usually makes us win since when I'm happy we are winning, that usually tanks us.

So what do you guys want me to say?

Strangely enough I think if you brought the entire Heat roster to play up here they still wouldn't finish last. Good group down in Abby.

  • 3rd worst record in the league.
  • 7 straight losses at home.
  • Shutout 5 x in a 7 game span.

If that's not "rock bottom" I don't know what is.

That's what rock bottom looks like.

Okay, easy jokes aside, rock bottom is last place overall. The Flames aren't there yet. Maybe they never get there but it's a good bet they're competing for it next year.

not to mention 2015 draft is looking pretty stacked as well... Eichel, Barzal, Konecny, Hanifin, Strome... I'm excited about the possibility of Eichel

If we don't get the 2015 1st overall, are there any other impact guys competing with McDavid right now?

Barzal imo and Eichel I think are the top three right now.

Barzal is a playmaking center. Really similiar to RNH in terms of hockey IQ.

Let's not forget that even though we're losing all these games (which is kinda what we want), we've been losing them without our full roster. When was the last time all of Gio, GlenX, Russle, Wideman, Cammy, Hudler and Stajan played together? We can win games with that lineup, but we don't so we're playing with half a AHL roster.

I'm not complaining, but it's not like we're losing with the best team we can put out there every night. If we were losing with a full roster, then things would look worse. We have good young players, decent traceable vets, a coach that can get more out of this team than his predecessors could, cap space and Burke willing to use that space.

If we can keep this course for one more year, that's all we'll need. If we can pick up Ekblad this year and pick top 3 next, I think the rebuild will be over sooner than most expect.

Looks like it could easily rival last years, the top end especially. Too bad this years is so meh.

Why would the Sabres pick Ekblad over Reinhart? You guys seem pretty loaded with some good young defensemen and defense prospects, but seem to lack in forwards with high end potential. With the difference between Reinhart & Ekblad being negligible I think it's unlikely they pass on young Sam.
