Future Considerations-how does this work?

I understand what it but Im curious as to what it means for GMs? Does it always mean future draft picks or is it a handshake type agreement about future deals/players/picks etc etc?

Is the a legal definitiont the NHL uses on what must be given up to complete a deal when its a player traded for FCs?

It means that there were provisions on the trade. Probably something like:

- If roenick plays 40 games or less, we give you a 6th round pick
- if he plays 70 games or more, we give you a 4th
- if we deal him before the start of the season, we give you back the 3rd

something like that.
