Eakins isn't a good coach for this team by any means, but it's also not just his fault. Hall acted like a child last night, so he got treated like one. If I was the coach and he started yelling back at me like Hall did, he wouldn't have seen the ice the rest of the game, not just 12 minutes off.
The problem isn't that Eakins had a problem with what Hall did. That is his call, and even if you disagree with him that what Hall did was bad, it isn't the issue.

But why the theatrics? Why the over-the-top, cartoonish shaking of his arms and switching of coats. He barely got any water on him.

Act like a coach. Eakins looked like a clown.

Either way, we all know how the Oilers operate, accountability does not exist for management, coaching, and now even players.

Agreed. Some posters are missing the point.

Eakins was in the middle of presiding over the most lop-sided defeat in BoA history (on our side, anyway), a wet suit jacket should have been the least of his issues.

Instead, he chooses to have a fit, and throw a towel at a player.

Great example for a team lacking focus.

Why would you bother to lecture me about searching for it, rather than just answering the question

Hmm, lets see I played hockey for 18 years, basketball for 10, volleyball for 8, track for 12, so yeah. I've played my share of sports. And I've seen plenty of players benched for throwing hissy fits. If a player starts thinking they are more important then the rest of the team and don't have to listen to the coach they sit. It's that damn simple

It's not as if this is Taylor Hall's first fit either. Seems to happen once or twice a season.

Oh I'll agree there, the preening was stupid as hell. That made him look foolish. And I don't really think that the water was really the main point of the argument. Eakins probably said something to Hall like "Grow the hell up" or something along those lines. Hall, as a passionate young man probably responded with something along the lines of "Go **** yourself" and then things just got out of hand from there.

Both Eakins and Hall pissed me off greatly last night, Eakins with his preening, and Hall with his post game comment saying "I was going to say it was embarrassing, but none of us in here are embarrassed." You aren't ****ing embarrassed after that **** show? Really? If you aren't embarrassed by that, you aren't as deep into this thing as I thought.

So then every player that gets into a fight should be benched rest of game because that is throwing a hissy fit by being angry correct? I played hockey as well never once did I see a player benched for breaking a stick throwing a glove off in the bench in frustration, I don't recall to many water bottle tosses in anger but I guess under your definition those should all be instant benchings.

I don't want to defend Eakins here. He is clearly over his head. BUT Hall was something like -3 already when the water incident happened.

If I was at the game last night, my jersey would have been tossed as well! This team is a side show! I don't even know if this team can be fixed now! The loser mentality has cut into this organization too deep to even amputate the puss spreading filth! We have a billionaire owner whom is infatuated with his pawns of yesteryear running this sideshow to even do anything about it. If he truly wanted a winning franchise, he'd part ways with Lowe and every former old boys club member and hire competent professionals!

The truth is; Eakins was the worst thing that could have happened to this team. All the small progresses this team has seen over the course of this lengthy rebuild is gone! Eakins destroyed it and made it worse!

Being an Oiler has never been so tough! Not even the thin 90's were this bad!

But it's OK for the coach to have a hissy fit and act like a baby? I like the fact that Hall got mad....more of the team should be pissed! Eakins always stands there like a tool with no emotion, I personally feel that the lack of emotion reflects in the team's play.

Did I say all expressions of frustration should require a player being benched? He showed up the coach, and didn't keep his yap shut when he was being told that he was doing just that. It's a team sport, if you are acting like a selfish child you should be benched.

If a player steps out of line, fine. Take the high road and talk to him about it behind closed doors. Think Mike Babcock or Ken Hitchcock (or any other actual NHL coach) would react that way to a frustrated player tossing a bottle? Of course not. Eakins just made a jackass of himself and embarrassed a star player for nothing.

From a big picture point of view, let's not forget the overall reality. The team has regressed in every tangible measure. Eakins is surely part of the reason for this. This latest shame is just the cherry on top of a very large sundae.

Eakins was mainly livid cause his Harry Rosen suit got wet. In 4 years hes back to Moores and for a metrosexual guy like him thats the only thing keeping him up at night.

People complain about a lack of emotion from Eakins, he shows it, now he's a jackass. Taylor needed to be embarrassed last night. I'm sick of hearing this crap like star players are babies that need to be coddled. THAT is the problem here in Edmonton, those kids are treated like they can do no wrong in this city. Once they are actually held responsible, maybe **** can get moving. Eakins isn't going to help by any means, because he's not a great coach systems coach, but I have no problem with him yelling at his star players when they deserve it.

The difference being one is frustrated about losing 8-1 to their provincial rival while the other is frustrated that he got water on his suit.

I like that Eakins said that wasn't the first or the worst confrontation he's had with players. Then he said yelling is pretty much a part of coaching.

Funny thing is this, guys like Hitch and other great coaches have been quoted numerous times over the last number of years about how they all changed their style to not yell, and how its counter productive.

Eakins has an antiquated brand of coaching that doesn't mesh with young people, and everyone seems to know it but the Oilers.

Nope Eakins showed up Hall and nothing you can say will change my mind. Halls frustration was not a pre meditated attack on Eakins it was incidental occurrence Eakins anger against Hall was deliberate . You Don't know what Hall said so how did he show up the coach. . Complete speculation on Your part.
