Far better. But he's not one of them and Mason is. Best guess.

That's true. But what about this year, he's been solid and recently has been playing as his last year form.

Overpayment by about $1.1m per year. $10m would've been a fair deal.

Based on what? They have the same SV% this season.

Maybe it's Winnipeg that should be preparing an offer sheet for Reimer.

You are probably right , but with cap rising next few years guys will get more $$. If Mason plays like last year for Flyers and first part of season, he will be well worth 4 mill.

Hockey existed before this season. Mason's track record and recent decline would worry me quite a bit.

Dude go back to your make beleaf world. I've seen pretty much every game Reimer has played he's a decent athletic goalie with some major flaws hence why your team traded for Bernier and hence why he lost the #1 job. He will likely get traded for a 2nd rd pick and end up signing a similar 3 yr 12 million dollar contract with another team likely the Flames. Mason's upside is considerably higher then Reimers his only flaw is rebound control which Reimer has plus a couple others.

Stats this season:
Mason: 2.48 GAA, .917 SV%, 19-11-6
Reimer: 3.06 GAA, .917 SV%, 9-6-2

How is Reimer "far better"?!

a couple of weeks ago ppl were saying that reimer and bernier were the only reason leafs were in playoff position. now reimer sucks? why do ppl keep changing their minds to suit their arguments?

Hopefully you are correct, but I'd say they are both just average this season so far. Both tied for 15th in save percentage. The league is pretty upside down in goalie stats this year though, having Harding, Bishop and Varlamov as 1,2,3 in that category is something few would've predicted.

I think 4.1m also means there is some room to move in the future if required. While that's way too much for a back up goalie, it's not so much that it makes it prohibitive to sign another starter for 6-7m in the future.

Were they mentally weak when they knocked the Flyers out of the playoffs two years in a row on the way to the SCF?

No, the Flyers will be looking to get a cheap backup for 14-15 now. They have very little cap room so signing another expensive goalie is out of the question.

21st in the league in GAA, T-15th S%...

He's not the worst example...just ANOTHER example of why giving goaltenders long term deals and high $ contracts is the biggest gamble in hockey...and one that seldom pays off.

Good thing this is a short term, medium $ contract then.

I definitely said Reimer sucks in my post The reason the Leafs are in playoff contention is their shootout record and their goaltending has been solid. The Flyers are in playoff contention solely on Mason's play. That being said I would've waited until the season was over to sign him. I'd rather pay 2 million extra and know for sure he's your guy as opposed to paying a decent contract and still having some doubt. Flyer fans dont want an average NHL goalie their desperate for an elite one. We wont know if Mason is one until the playoffs are over this season.

Ha Ha you so funny.. No Flyers fan would want Reimer, unless he was a very cheap backup to Steve.

Nice deal for both parties.

Before HF experts look at his stats and judge. Just know that the flyers league the lead in times short handed.

judging a goalie's performance on partial seasons is bad - there is just too much variance involved

to your second point I'd be thrilled if we traded for/offersheeted Reimer and bought out Pavs in the offseason

That's a high AVG, good thing it's only for 3 years. Could end up being a good deal for both sides though.
