Trading From the Upper Hand

since trades seem to be involving teams who are now scramlbing to stay under the cap or those trying to clear space to sign UFAs, here is a small group of players currently under contract or RFAs on teams that are quickly creeping towards the cap that may be shed for cheap. I am only listing players who I really believe will actually be made available and fit needs I believe the team requires (see my other thread 'Could This Work?'):

Michal Handzus(c) - $2.128 mil
Darcy Tucker (w) - $1.596 mil
Ruslan Salei (d) - RFA
Mike Johnson (rw) - $1.672 mil
Tomas Holmstrom (w) - $1.368 mil
Stu Barnes (f) - $1.14 mil
Steve Konowalchuk (lw) - $1.9 mil
Jason Arnott (c) - RFA
Kim Johnsson (d) - RFA
Colin White (d) - RFA
Jamie Langenbrunner (w) - RFA

anything interesting here? any of these possible?

Stu Barnes-hmm...seems plausable given the pattern so far.

Michal Handzus(c) - $2.128 mil - not good enough to replace Jokinen or upset Weiss' development

Darcy Tucker (w) - $1.596 mil - we already signed him, his name's Gary Roberts

Ruslan Salei (d) - RFA - would be a decent addition, except for his penchant for getting suspended every other season. He's due this year.

Mike Johnson (rw) - $1.672 mil - who? 'Nuff said.

Tomas Holmstrom (w) - $1.368 mil - eh...he's an upgrade on Kolnik, but not our first need.

Stu Barnes (f) - $1.14 mil - STTUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! But we can't get him, because we no longer have Chris Wells to trade for him.

Steve Konowalchuk (lw) - $1.9 mil - I'd take him for a bit less to replace Hagman. But if that's his contract, I'd sign RFAs first, then see what's left and who's left.

Jason Arnott (c) - RFA - if he can stay healthy, sure, though I'd prefer a top winger to a top center. Olli's good enough if he can get some talent on the wings.

Kim Johnsson (d) - RFA - ehhh...not terribly interested

Colin White (d) - RFA - over Krapo, Kiwi, or Cairnage? You bet. Though it will ruin the name I've just chosen for them: the Three Stooges.

Jamie Langenbrunner (w) - RFA - no, we've already signed enough "experience" players whose best days are behind them.

Cairnage ... I like that nickname.

Moe Kiwi
Larry Krapo
Curly Cairns

Set 'em up as the a pk unit, and they could do a Stooges bit on the ice (with sound effects, of course)

Sure, the other team's pp unit will score in under 30 seconds, but, boy will the crowd be entertained.

Somebody call yormark...we've got us some marketing to do.

Is he? I've been hearing his name for so long I thought he'd be at least 32. Lemme check on that.

EDIT: He just turned 30 a couple weeks ago, and, as I suspected, he's in exactly the same mold as Roberts and Nieuwendyk, a 50 point player at his best, only he's not very consistent, based on his record.

How many players did we have last year though who scored 50 points?

Not many, but we're not going to make the playoffs with a guy who scores 65 points, two who may score 50 points if they have enough gas left in the tank, and a guy who may score 50 points if he's having a good year.

Anyway, if we hadn't made all those trades at the deadline in 03-04, we'd likely have had the same number of 50 point players as we could have now.

You just got to hope Martin develops these young players. Until then though let's just think positive.

Arnott, Langenbrunner & Sykora.

I'd have no problems with any of 'em.

Sykora at the top though.

No, he kept squirming away.

I was going to further this joke, but I just realized I'm now talking about sodomizing a small furry animal on a hockey message board.

Where has my life gone?

Don't worry Clint. According to one of Big 106's mornign news articles, there's no beastiality laws in the state of Florida. This came out of something to do with a guy sodomizing his dog up in Tallahasee.

BTW, I love bunnies, but not rabbits and not Easter.

You sure it wasn't to do with the police arresting a couple horse farm owners because they ran the farm for people that wanted to engage in bestiality, and someone died from a ruptured colon? That's been in the news in the past week.

Really, I'm not making that up, people...sad what some people do for fun. Still, we can't all go yachting with Alan Cohen.

Well, with the horse thing in the news this week, it came out that, in Washington State, bestiality isn't against the law unless you can prove the animal didn't enjoy it.

No joke, that's the actual law.

So if the dog, horse, cow, or chicken that they violate would have to be smiling or lighting up a cig afterwards it is all ok in Washington, huh? Or maybe it would be wanting to cuddle afterwards
