Remember the last time we pony'd up for "the intangiblez"?

Like I've been saying all year, moving forward Callahan will be the second coming of Drury for this organization. I'm also really against keeping Girardi when you can a cheap, solid, young replacement for him like Sbisa, and a first to boot. Anaheim may even add a little more because their 1st is going to be a late pick.

edit: I may be mistaken, thought Sbisa was a RHD. Still not an awful deal. The point remains the same, we can get more for Girardi than he's worth keeping.

I can't see us trading Girardi. I believe he will sign, and will get his $6MM per. I am worried about Callahan because he is so injury prone, and because he is injury prone he also knows that he needs to cash in this year. If the Rangers are going to trade Cally, I would look towards Torts. Cally was/is a Torts guy and while this would be a tough deal to make and wildly unpopular with the majority of Ranger fans, it is a chance to get some holes filled that are vacant now. Kesler, Kassian, Edler, would be the targets. With Richards being bought out, the Rangers need to find a deal with Zuccarello and hope that either JT Miller can step up, or go get another center. IMO, this precludes throwing a 5 or 6 year $6MM per deal at Callahan.

I would be over the moon. We would have to add significantly, something like Miller or McIlrath and another B prospect or 2nd rounder, in addition to Girardi being extended before he got traded.

I honestly could not think of better fits for our holes. Yandle bring us a bonafide PMD, and Hanzal a top 6 center that matches up against other teams' top end offensive guys.

I still think they'll keep one and let the other go. My gut says they will re-sign Girardi in the 5.5MM range, and let Callahan walk. Kevin Klein answered one question on the right side of the defense, but there are still many. McIlrath is the only RHD close in the organization and I'm very skeptical. Keep Girardi, and that becomes somewhat stabilized. If they do, I expect Stralman to walk (as much as I like him), and look for someone who can bring a little more of a speed/transitional game on the right side.

Only problem with both is keep or trade. In the middle of a playoff hunt, with how mediocre the east is, you have to keep both, even if you lose them for nothing in July. They are more valuable to this team than any NHL-ready pieces they get in return.

Outside of Pitt and Bos, who is head and shoulders better than NYR? They can take any of those other teams.

But can they take any of the other teams plus potentially both Pitt and Bos? I agree that the East is pretty wide open and that when on the Rangers can win a 7 game series against anyone. I'm really not sure they can back it up the 3 times needed just to get to the Final

Agreed given the inconsistency. If Fleury has another meltdown, the East is entirely up for grabs.

I don't expect this team to win 3 rounds in the East and get to the Cup Finals. Realistically, I see a 2nd round team here. But I think given how the East has turned out, trading Callahan/and or Girardi is a mistake. Take one last (albeit unlikely) shot with this core group as constructed.

I'm still dangling Callahan for Nieto +. Yes Nieto is important to the Sharks, but it's a perfect trade for both teams. Rangers gave up Marchant in 1994 for MacTavish and he was a huge help for them.

Imagine the lower lines next year with Nieto plus some of the Hartford guys.

Nieto's speed would be welcome here, no doubt. As he develops, he seems to me to be like one of those players that even when he's not scoring you'll notice him. Last Sharks game I watched last week he played with Wingels and Marleau. He's gotten better as the season has progressed. Them having a ton of injuries has helped that.

Someone many of us here wanted the Rangers to draft.

I know he's a SoCal kid with a cool story but honestly, if the Sharks want to win this year, he is the first person I'm asking for.

My only concern would be that he's blocked on the left side with Kreider, a likely contract extension for Zucc and Hagelin.

Depends what happens with Ryan Miller, but I still think Callahan ends up on the Blues by the deadline.

With Steen's injuries, Morrow being pretty much cooked and Stewart extremely streaky, Callahan would be the ultimate luxury 2nd/3rd line winger for them, and would give their average PK a huge boost.

Callahan for Jaskin, '14 1st, low level prospect and/or pick based on resigning clause.

Tampa Bay is right there with Boston

And, oh yeah, they are without Stamkos

So yeah

OT but I'm not sold on Tampa at all. Their defense is on and off and Bishop is a one year wonder. There's no way he doesn't come back down to earth. Still, they're scary with Drouin potentially joining them for a playoff push. I'm very confident the Rangers can beat them in a seven game series.

Boston is still the only team in the East that scares me.

No Penguins?

Unless you're banking on Fleury having another meltdown, which is honestly not out of the realm.
