Boulton signs in atlanta

What's the word on this guy, other than the obvious.

He just signed in Atlanta, which surprises some Thrasher fans.

Can he play?
Any useful skill ther than enforcer?
Is he even a top 10 enforcer?

Thanks

He has little hockey sense. But he's a decent pugilist and a good skater. Your run-o-the-mill, 4th line tough guy.

Sorry to dash your hopes.

No.
No.
No.

Boulton works hard and he's a nice story but he's not a very good fighter nor an intimidating presence. Though he's willing to drop the gloves he has a hard time getting partners as many opponents are just not that interested in battling him.

Awards:
Bolts is typically a willing combatant and does his job. Don't expect him to initiate a lot --- he usually takes the brunt of what the other player is throwing after he's been sent out to regulate.

He's pretty fast but he can't fight, can't play hockey and is a below average enforcer.

I hope you're right. I love Peters and he's definitely one of the better fighters we've had, but Johnson really worked him over last time. Peters is still kind of adapting to this role after being a second round pick, and I expect him to be even better than last year.

As for Boulton...

No. No. No. Eric is a tremendous.....

What a valueable.....

I'm so glad he's finally gone.

Boulton was one of the most worthless players I've ever seen in the NHL, and I don't even know if I'd sign him for an ECHL team. That said it wasn't too bad because he only played like 3 minutes a game, 10 of which was usually spent in the penalty box

I didn't mind Boulton. It's better to have him take the punches and take the other team's tough guy to the box, than have him running around intimidating the skill players. Ray served the same purpose. It's even better if your tough guy is the one delivering the pain. Fans get tired of seeing their enforcer lose all the time. Peters was a huge upgrade for the Sabres in that department so Boulton gets cast off.

The Sabres also lost Brad Brown. I'm a little worried they won't have enough toughness now to handle teams that play that style. The new rules will benefit teams that can skate, but they're not going to make it any easier for teams that lack toughness. I think they're really looking for Gaustad to step up and help fill that role.

I'm interested in seeing how the league's new substance abuse policy will affect these guys. This is pure speculation, but I have a feeling we're going to see some suspensions.

With And-roid Peters being the prime candidate from our very own Sabres.
