Too bad for Latvia; that was obviously their best chance for a win.

That Czech coach really mismanaged that game. Also, that roster could have been a lot better if the Czech committee wasn't using NHL96 to pick the team.

Was wasn't Pavelec in net against Sweden? They showed him sitting in the pressbox eating popcorn? The first goalie stunk...4 goals on 11 shots...reminded me of Bryz.

Read somewhere they went with Kovar and Salak since they where acclimated as they had been there since last Thursday.

He'll play against Latvia though.

Obviously the Coach thought that going with the more rested acclimated goalie would be a better choice.

The game couldn't have gone more in the wrong direction for former Flyers pick Jakub Kovar. A couple of screened shots - I think he even briefly flubbed what became the first goal against with his glove, and then his confidence cracked and he looked really small in net and allowed a softie to the short side. The whole Czech team didn't show up in the first though and hung him out to dry.

Watching that Czech team, it was hard not to think of the Flyers.

"Wait, you mean we can shoot on the power play?"

Raffl when asked on what he thought of the Austrian jersey:

'I think it is nice... I think it looks better than the Czech one... thats what counts.'

When pressed further:

'Jake, he has the ugliest one, so I am pretty happy.'

I was think the same thing but more so because the whole team decided not to show up for the first 25 to 30 minutes. They left their goalies out to dry, who responded by letting in some softies. They really had trouble clearing their own zone in first period too. Text books Flyers hockey. Don't show up then push hard for a comeback.

I don't know if Latvia is really slow, but Switzerland was flying in the game. They don't have great talent up front, but their speed and system will create some problems for the big guys. They have enough skill on the backend to breakout and create offense and Hiller is going to keep them in most games.

It was back and forth for about half the game. More so than the score may indicate. Masalskis made some great saves to keep Latvia in the game. It was fun seeing Sandis Ozolins out there. The guy can barely skate anymore but he was still making plays. Bartulis looked bigger than I remembered. He was terrible on the PP though. Pretty quiet other than that.

I DVR'd the Sweden vs Czech game. Was hoping the Czechs would win, but the list of players on the Sweden team is awesome.

The Czechs played WORSE than the Flyers in the first period, so they didn't remind me of the Flyers as someone else said. Cool that Jagr got a goal. The Czechs will not be getting a gold this year, I think....

Voracek also really stood out, he looked really good and had a lot of nice chances. Hopefully playing a the olympics will wake him up a bit for the rest of the season since he's been in a bit of a slump lately.

I went to the Canada-Sweden game in Philly and managed to fall asleep through the double OT game. I was just a youngster. Dainius Zubrus was sitting behind me.

Raffl with an assist 30 seconds into the first game against Finland!

Grabner with the goal; Raffl won the puck in the corner and fed it out front for an easy one-timer.

Edit: on Raffl's next shift he took a shot that "injured" Timonen (not seriously).

Raffl's brother causing trouble out front as Austria makes it 2-1.

Rask hasn't been busy, but you can't really fault him on either goal.

Finland storms back to lead 4-2 after the first, scoring two goals in the last minute of the period (in 8 seconds).

The Swiss are like the Islanders. No Defence or Goaltending and with Vanek and Grabner upfront!
