Just got a big paper shipment for the store and the delivery guy ( super nice guy ) had a Pens touque on. I said I hope you got that free somewhere, he says he is a life long Pens fan. I told him I was a Flyers fan and told him to take it all back. We start chatting and he says how shocked he was that G was left off team Canada and how crazy it was that he wasn't going.

Nice to chat with an intelligent rival fan for once.

It was on twitter was it not? (I think it was every Olympic Gold winner had a Flyer on the team... not just Canada.)

The Canadians have though had a Flyer on every Olympic roster though... which helps!

2010-Richards and Pronger

2006-Gagne

2002-Gagne

1998-Lindros, Brind'Amour and Desjardins

So they have both had Flyers on the roster each time they medalled and had Flyers on the roster when they did not.

1998- Svoboda

2002- Gagne

2006- Forsberg

2010- Richards and Pronger

I think that is what the tweet was about maybe.

USA has never won gold without a player from Warroad, MN. They have one now in TJ Oshie.

Just a fun fact: No team has ever won gold in the Olympics without a Flyers player on the roster.

How do you spend more than $50,000,000,000.00 and not have working toilets? And the best option to handle loose dogs (created by the destruction of property to host the games) is to kill them...

No offense to our Russian members, but the situation is really ****.

Is the media sensationalizing this, or is Sochi (and Russia) really this jacked up?

If only he didn't hit the post against Hasek in the shootout.

According to Ovechkin he believes the media is exaggerating and basically said people should calm down. He mentioned how Turin and other cities had problems but that with Russia it is more political. I think he is half right. There is more of a political element but also some valid knocks

Snider didn't even hide who was talking about in his rant about Giroux not being selected. Clearly not a fan of Yzerman.

It's better than being diplomatic. He said exactly what he felt, and quite frankly, I agree with him on this. Yzerman deserves to be called out after playing favorites like that.

I don't remember reading about door knob/pillow/lightbulb shortages, fake outlets, mass dog killings, dangerous tap water or un-flushable toilets in any previous Olympic city. I'd say OV is 20% right! too much damn smoke coming from Sochi to write off as Cold War politics.

I can't fault Yzerman for taking MSL, he's every bit as deserving as Giroux. However the original selections are fair game in my opinion.

I still think MSL would have been the choice even with another GM doing the selection, he's neck & neck with Giroux this year after coming off a season in which he won an Art Ross. I also think a bit of nostalgia came into play with this being his last opportunity to play in the Olympics while Giroux will have other opportunities down the road.

I like Snider's passion & how he's sticking up for his guy in Giroux but I think his emotions got the best of him here & it clouded his judgement.

Glad G's not going because:
1 - rest up
2 - The snub has put him on a tear
3 - USA! USA! USA!

Obviously he is biased.

Not so much cold war politics as it is politics over Ukraine in particular.

Not sure what the percentage is that is more accurate but there is politics involved regardless.

Dustin Brown has looked awful this year. I really would like him to sit at the games as an extra forward but the fact that he has an A on his jersey means that's not happening. He's fallen off a cliff from his knee injury.

Ha ha.. Chairman Ed wants his "way" ....surprise

I like the Olympics but yeah it has a lot of drawbacks...

Flyers chairman snider rips yzerman, hockey canada brass

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=443215

"But with one game left before the break, the Flyers' recent spurt could stall because of the Olympics.

"I hate them," said Snider, the Flyers founder.

He added: "It's ridiculous, the whole thing is ridiculous. I don't care if it was in Philadelphia, I wouldn't want to break up the league. I think it's ridiculous to take three weeks off, or however long it is, in the middle of the season. It screws up everything. .. How can anybody be happy breaking up their season. No other league does it, why should we? There's no benefit to us whatsoever. If anything, I can only see negatives."

Reminded the Flyers reached the Stanley Cup finals during the last Olympics in 2010, Snider laughed.

"Maybe I like them," he said. "I forget about that."

I love Snider.

How many owners provide one quote-worthy comment in the duration of one season? Yeah right, Snider throws those out every few weeks.

He's so protective over this club and it's people, I hope he gets the chance to witness the Flyers winning a cup. He deserves it.
