Crazy. At 3 year terms I think both of them could have gotten blank cheque offers in the summer. Good for San Jose

great deals for players and team.

each prolly could have gotten more money if not term elsewhere.

Good for them and good for San Jose.

Joe's deal is not an 35+ contract because they base that on a player's age at July 1st and he will turn 35 on July 2nd.

Is that right?

[EDIT] It's actually June 30th so they had two days to spare.

Very good deals! I'm very excited about this, and figured that they'd take hometown discounts.

Vanek's agent is happy. Less competition come July 1st

As a fan of the NHL, glad to see both of them stay in SJ.

Great move for San Jose. I think they'll definitely remain good players throughout the duration and it keeps their Cup window open.

This should ramp up the Stastny to X (with X=Leafs, of course) by only oh, 4,000,000%.

Thanks alot Doug!

I can't recall when or how we found out... But Wilson said at some point he doesn't believe in those contracts and the max he will offer in length is 5 years. I apologize if I'm off but I for the life of me can't remember when I heard this.

He's done longer. I believe Michalek's was six. What he's said is he won't do long term "cap circumvention" type deals.

For this Ducks fan this is tough. I really wouldn't mind if both Thornton and Marleau would get to hoist the cup one day, but I really don't like the idea of Sharks winning the cup one of these years

But great deals for the Sharks, and I look forward to both of these guys to finish off their great careers in SJ.

I'm ecstatic. Marleau actually went ahead and signed without an agent and Thornton got less then he originally asked for. I am shocked Marleau didn't make more than Thornton though. He has been better.
