Khabibulin signed by the Hawks, as per Sportsnet.

I forget which thread mentioned that this would be the basis for the Luongo contract, so I just decided to make a new one.

6.75 per season. Wow. I hope Luongo doesn't ask for this much. Still think he demands to be the highest-paid goalie in the league?

Yea, we might get screwed here with the Luongo signing but if he does sign which I think he will long term, the Bulin wall is out of Florida, a hockey present has been given to me on my birthday, how nice.

I wonder if TB targets anyone now. Or will they just go with Graham?

I think they will go with Graham, he was pretty solid if I remember right, and yeah Heimy that offer sheet will be coming soon, any guesses on how much?

I was actually thinking the same thing... things might get crazy.

I'm actually being optimistic here and expect Keenan to match and Luongo to sign. Maybe there is a reason Keenan hasn't spent up to the $30 mill. mark yet. Maybe he knew all this would happen and planned out a budget accordingly?

I wouldn't mind giving Luongo 6.75 mil for the next 5 years. For that piece of mind knowing no matter what, we've got Luongo in goal. And when the contract is up he'd only be what, 30 years old?

Damnit Keenan sign him now so we can at least say, "yea we suck but we've got Roberto Luongo as our goaltender".

As amazing as Luongo is and has played in seasons past, has he won the Cup? That, ultimately, will factor in to the reason why he won't get as big a contract as the Bulin Wall.

I would give Louie along the lines of a 5-year, $24M deal.

No Way Luongo Gets Near As Much Money

How many Stanley Cups has he won? 0. How many Playoff games has he won? 0. How many Playoff Games has he even played in? 0. Your looking at a $3.5-$4 mil per year contract for Luongo. No More.

If he'd accept a 24/5 or even 25/5, we'd be nuts not to do it in a second.

Currently Luongo is 26 years old so a 5 year deal would make him 31 by the end of it.

It's hard to win stanley cups, win playoff games, be in playoff games when you're the goaltender for a AHL team.

That has nothing to do with it though, it's about skill and that's what he has I hope your right on the salary part and hopefully for around 5-6 years but still he will get a pretty nice number by days end.

I really don't care how much we pay him as long as it's at least 5 years. We need him for the long haul. Luongo is the only skilled goaltender we've ever had since myself (Vernon was too old & Burke/Kidd don't count).

Haha, I forgot about Kidd and Burke, let's bring back Mark Fitzpatrick.

You'll get him for $3.5-$4 mil but for no more than 2 or 3 years which is fine. The guys Keenan has been signing will be gone by then and the Cats could afford a max contract offer which Luongo would accept because he loves it down here.

Ya know, I remember a game a season or two after that incident where Fitzpatrick got in a fight or shovin match here, and I screamed out "Beat his ass like you did your wife." Half the crowd cheered me on, and the other half was appalled. Thinkin back, definitely not the best thing to have screamed, but its worse that people cheered me on.

In 2 yrs, Luongo is an unrestricted free agent and will be able to sign with whoever he wants at the highest possible price. So be prepared to sign him to 20% of your cap at that point. Smart move
