Who are the most courageous players in the NHL

Who are the guys that you would say are the bravest men in the NHL. Guys who either came back after some serious injuries to risk playing again, or guys who played a lot bigger then they were. Guys like Doug Gilmour.

Anybody else you'd like to mention?

Coming back from serious injury or illness?
Gary Roberts, Mario Lemieux and Saku Koivu are three that come to mind off the bat.

There is one player in this league whom, if you ask me, is the most couragous man in hockey at the moment. A guy who puts his body on the line game in game out, hustles his ASS off and even once, in junior, dived headfirst into the goalpost to stop a goal.

Mike Ricci.

You'd have to be courageous to walk out in public with a wig like his.

Tomas Vokoun

2 years ago, when Mike Dunham went down with a groin injury , this man played at least a month with a broken foot.

Not a current player, but Bobby Orr deserves mention.

I mean, who else intentionally blocks shots with his face?

Tomas Holmström. Either he is very courageous or very stupid.

Brian Berard...not only does he come back from an injury to play hockey...he is basically paying his insurance company to play hockey as well...takes guts to basically have 3/4th the vision of a typical player and still play...

Theo Fleury - courageous, or reckless? Either way, a player who plays well beyond his size.

Steve Yzerman-The last time the Wings won his knees were basically shot and he still played and played well.

Chris Chellios-Plays in pain a lot.

Doug Weight-Came back and Played in the playoffs two years ago even though his injuries were so bad from the hit from Boughner that he shouldnt have been on the ice.

Mario-Leave the cancer out of it, he had back pain that was so bad, he couldnt pick up his kids or tie his skates he still playe awsome.

Brett Hull-He was hurt so bad that he shouldnt have been on the ice when he scored the cup winner for Dallas, he was getting pain shots to kill the pain in his groin between periods and he also had a bad knee.

Last but not least Bobby Orr-He was the best player on the ice even when he was in so much pain that he couldnt practice ot tie his skates i the 76 Canada Cup. What made this so special was that this was the only time he got to play for his country. By the way he won MVP of the tourney.

There are No JD Drew's on hockey he couldnt make it through a practice.

two from the Flames

1. In the coming back from serious injury category: Robyn Regehr, who was in the NHL mere months after a serious car accident

2. In the lays it on the line no matter when category: Stephane Yelle. The guy is diving in front of shot after shot even if preseason action, despite not having (probably for the first time in his career) to actually fight for his roster spot

Who else? Why Adam Foote does that ... too often for my liking at least. It's pretty stupid, none the less is the epitome of his character.

But the first name that came to mind when I read the title of the thread was Stevie Y.

Yeah, Adam Foote has a weird technique when he tries to block a shot. He kind of crouches down and sometimes uses one hand to block his face. It works but he should have went to the Craig Ludwig school of shot blocking

I was thinking...

maybe Lindros...

next hit might scramble his brain permanently...

but... he's closer to the stupid category?
