Jagr to the Pens

Assuming the Devils are sellers at the deadline

Jagr

Niskanen

Penguins get a great RW for Sid and clear some room on the back end, Devils get a solid top 4 defenseman entering his prime to compliment their young defensive core.

Or if Devils fans would be interested in reuniting Despres and Gelinas I'm sure something could be worked out there as well.

Don't Pens fans boo Jagr every time he plays in Pitt?

The bridge is burned but I can still dream.

That being said I don't think the organization would be against bringing him back if they had a chance. This is a business after all and we never really had the cap space to offer Jagr what other teams were without shipping somebody out.

I could see the Devils trading Jagr if they are sellers, but I don't see them trading him to a divisional rival and certainly not for a defenseman which they have a glut of. They'd be looking for a 1st round pick.

I'd wait and see how his performance from the return of the Olympics is. He could well get tired with the number of games he is playing and no rest. If he is still doing it then I'd see what they want. I don't really want to give up a 1st though.

I'm pretty sure they'd want a 1st and a F prospect, probably a 1st and Kuhnhackl

Although my fellow Devils fans may disagree, I see no problem with trading for a defenseman if it's the highest possible return for a player. If the Devils are sellers and the returns to choose from are a young 3rd line forward or a top 4 D, take the D. It increases depth and broadens the pool of assets to deal from.

A glut of worse defenseman I suppose. Niskanen would instantly make their top 4 immensely better and has the ability to QB a PP quite well. Couple that with the fact that he will be effective for the next 5+ years while Jagr might have one more season left in him.

NJ doesn't need a defensmen, they can't even find a place for Merrill and Larsson at the moment.

1. **** Jagr. Because everything.
2. Jagr's not going to be the same player on a team that preaches playing with pace.

I'd rather trade for Ryder though tbh. Jagr doesn't really have the speed to play in the Pens system anymore.

I'm sure both of them underperforming has nothing to do with that.

Really do not want Jagr.

Since his return, he has for the most part been great at the start of the year only to peter out when it counts.

I don't want to trade good assets for Jagr. Some team probably will but the Pens need a longer term solution with Dupuis likely out for this year and parts of next season. Dupuis and Kunitz are also well into their 30's. The Pens need to find a younger winger for something around one of their young D-Men.

I can see the argument that it doesn't really fit a need but it isn't really laughable. Niskanen has had just as good a year as Jagr. He has 52GP 7G 23A 30Pts and is a +29. He may not keep it up next year but Jagr may not either given his age. I don't think either team is looking for a rental though so the deal doesn't work.

Niskanen is a FA I believe after this season? Makes no sense from my perspect. But he has become a solid player. Can't believe how badly Shero cleaned Niewenduyk's clock on that trade.

Devils if they do the right thing and move Jagr (and Zidlicky), will probably want either a 1st or a promising young forward prospect plus a 2 or 3 in return for Jagr.

Sadly I don't know if Devils management has a clue anymore.

I don't see a fit between the Devils and Pens on this particular move, but if Jagr is made available, I would expect the Pens to inquire.

New Jersey would want a first round pick for Jagr. Niskanen's not really of any use to them. In any case there is no way Jagr is ever going to be brought back into the Pens organization.

Nisky is a UFA, but I can't imagine him walking if he got a fair offer. He will probably be looking for 4M per, and I don't think we can justify paying him with with Despres and Maatta both ready to take bigger roles. NJ seems to have a glut of underperforming defensemen to clear out. This seems like a mutually beneficial trade to me.

The only way I would be okay offering up a 1st is if it were conditional like the Stars got from the Bruins last season based on us either making the finals or him re-signing with us.

Insult your D and prospects? Sensitive much? He said Merril and Larsson were struggling, and Niskanen would help your top-4 D, both of which are true (the 2nd more than the 1st). If that's insulting to you, then you need to get some thicker skin.

Seems like 90% of your fanbase insults most of your defensemen more than I have. Please point out where I insulted your prospects.

first of all, for the Penguins to get him in division they'd have to overpay

Jagr's value is probably a 1st. so for the Pens, it'd cost a 1st and a good forward prospect for the Devils to even consider it
