Rumour: Leafs/ Red wings talking deal

640 TORONTO: reports a trade rumour that would see the Maple Leafs trade Ed Belfour and Wade Belak to the Detroit Red Wings for forward Henrik Zetterberg. This move would then allow the Leafs to sign Curtis Joseph for half of what Belfour makes.

Anyone here this?

Yeah - had a good laugh at that one earlier... not quite as good as the Thornton one though.

As much as I would love this...I really don't understand why Detroit would do it...and why would anyone want Belak? It just makes no sense, unless Detroit is hell bent on getting one more cup for Yzerman

Maybe they'll try to pass him off as a stick boy in their financial report??

It's a special branch of Leaf mathematics, the type they used to determine that it was possible to sign Kariya, Gonchar, and Foote this off season.

although it kind of does..I think any deal that involves the Leafs (rumour or not) gets downplayed as nonsense at these boards for a couple of reasons...1) most are nonsense and 2) a lot of people don't like the leafs and are just waiting for a chance to jump on the them. I'm not your typical Leaf fan, I understand that the hockey world does not revolve around the Leafs. Having said that, the Wings are still a very good team that currently is very weak in net..there does not appear to be help anymore on the FA market that would give them the caliber of goaltender that Eddie is (yes I am aware that he's 40 and has back problems).. Do I see this deal getting done? No, personally I can't see this happening, but it isn't as far fetched as some people have (or will) make it seem...

Vik

Why wouldn't Detroit just sign Cujo?

I don't know about this..part of me remains skeptical, but stranger things have happened in the past week. I wouldn't mind losing Eddie to be honest, and have CUJO back.

JFJ AND Holland denied this and said it was ridiculous.

And I agree.
