Oilers Kids -- Man Watch

Thought it would be nice to have a reference thread where we can look at the actual ages of our young stars, so we can realize eventually when to stop calling them kids. It's hard to believe they're growing up so quick. I wonder if they have the same size skates as when they first slapped on the Orange and Blue. Feel free to edit and add once future prospects crack the roster. As for Schultzy I think he will always be a big kid. Any ideas on a guideline other than just age?

64 Nail Yakupov 5' 11" 186 6 Oct 1993 20 Nizhnekamsk, RUS

93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 6' 1" 180 12 Apr 1993 20 Burnaby, BC, CAN

85 Martin Marincin 6' 4" 188 18 Feb 1992 21 Kosice, SVK

4 Taylor Hall 6' 1" 201 14 Nov 1991 22 Calgary, AB, CAN

14 Jordan Eberle 5' 11" 180 15 May 1990 23 Regina, SK, CAN

19 Justin Schultz 6' 2" 188 6 Jul 1990 23 Kelowna, BC, CAN

Most have already stopped with the "kid" tagline. It was getting old and creepy even before Eakins came in here and squashed it.

arbitrary
add to the list

89 Sam Gagner 5' 11" 202 10 Aug 1989 24 London, ON, CAN (only nine mths older than Eberle, only 11mths older than Schultz)

It is odd Gagner is never considered to be part of the group of young players. Even though he is.

He almost had to lie about his age to get in the NHL as early as he did. Gagner turned 18 around a month before his first pro camp here and MADE the team. This is young as it gets making the NHL.

agree, sam was picked the year before eberle, while eberle was doing his heroics at the WJC gagner was into his second NHL season.

Perron was also picked the same year as sam gagner, both drafted in 2007...Joe Thornton was drafted in 1997, these guys are a full 10 years younger than joe. that just seems crazy to put it in that context

yep

I just think its interesting how people automatically make the distinction and leave Gagner or Perron off a list like that every time. That said Perron is 15mths older than Gagner.

But people will talk about the upside of Eberle, Schultz all the time and somehow infer that Gagner or Perron don't have an upside at this point (i.e. aren't getting better) I never understand that.

I knew Perron would get better, see the "Nostradamus" thread, (second page) lol

Wow that is insane, Perron is such a more complete player than Gagner. I always thought Perron was much older.

Perron is a more complete player than any forward in our lineup except Taylor Hall.

Can't discount coming from a well coached competitive club. Perron would have all the good team habits and expectation. Competing on this team with literal losers.

It really isn't a fair comparison.

My wife has a Taylor Hall jersey and wasn't laughing. Should I worry about that?

I've seen Marincin listed at 196 lbs in different places.

Edit: like right here! http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/martin_marincin/

Perron is older, a little over a year becuase he wasn't drafted till he was 19, he played Jr A in his draft year I believe.

We should update pictures of each player in OP each month. We can see their facial hair come and go and such.

I'll make a nice table when I get the time soon, and put updated pics. I was going to add Gagner but he's 24 now and can grow a lumberjack beard, so I would have to add the other 24 yr. olds as well. As for Lander/Pitlick and the other prospects I think I might make a seperate OKC table for them and the others until after TD when they crack the squad.
