Don't know how they'll do on the road trip but you couldn't possibly ask for a better game to give them momentum going into it. The game was nearly perfect except for a few bad passes. Every line looked great, every D pair looked great, and Mason looked great.

Just one more young PMD like Gus will do wonders, makes such a difference having someone who can skate. He and Luke are the perfect match

Yup, we did exactly what we supposed to do beat them & beat them badly. It doesn't really change my outlook on the year but it was nice to enjoy a game for once.

Luke's at his best when he plays with a mean streak, Gus allows him to do that. When he plays with Mez he's too passive & looks like he doesn't want to make a mistake.

Spin moves or bust.

If Berube breaks up Gus and Schenn then i can confidently call him the dumbest coach of all time. It is amazing how much better Schenn looks with Gus than anybody else. If he can play like this the rest of the year i may be able to forget all about his poor play in the beginning of the year.

Don't wanna spoil a great game, but you asked so whatever.

Don't know if it helps the teams confidence obviously but as far as the West goes they're overrated right now as I just said in my last post so it might not be as bad as people think. Also, even though it's technically our third pairing Gustaffson/Schenn is so much of an improvement over Meszaros/Schenn that it might help a lot at least short-term. I'd be surprised if we have a winning record with the tough parts of this schedule coming up, but it's not as hard as people think it will be. Our D is pretty not good even when at their best though. As far as tonight's game goes this was an old, declining Red Wings team with no Zetterberg/Howard/Franzen/Datsyuk sooooo...yeah. Best not to get cocky over it.

Adam Hall is my favorite fourth liner on this team since Blair Betts (that guy was awesome for a little while) and Ian Lapperriere. That line with those two was probably the best fourth line I've ever seen us have even though I forget who the third was (Carcillo?).

Hall is awesome though.

This. Gus and Luke should never have been broken up. Mesz is garbage. I don't care if he scores sometimes. He still stinks. Gus is the man.

Pros: Mase, G, Simmer (quietly great game imo), Raffl
Cons: Vinny, Grossmann

It is cliché-ish but the team has to play it one game at a time and not look at it as an impossible journey. In the "Season from Hell," the Flyers were the worst team in the East and Anaheim was the best team in the West (one regulation loss all season as I recall) and it was 5-1 or 5-2 through the first period. Funky things can occur in positive ways sometimes.

Post-game said Timonen has only missed 16 games in his Flyers career. That's insane considering how long he's been here, how old he is, how much he blocks shots, and how many times I've heard of him having back spasms or getting roughed up.

Also, pretty much every top team in the West has cooled off to some degree. Chicago has four wins in all of January so far, St. Louis is kind of up and down IIRC, and LA plus Vancouver are doing pretty badly and can't really score any goals for a while now. I'm still scared ****less of Anaheim and San Jose though. Even though I don't think San Jose goes far in the playoffs.
These next 6 games can be make or break. They play some talented teams (except the Flames). Could be make or break. We'll see man.

Kimmo's injury couldn't come at a worse time either.

So play Mez with Coburn if Kimmo is out?

Great win tonight. But still too many dumb and lazy penalties like the hook from BSchenn and the offensive zone hold by VdV.

Raffl's speed makes that 4th line. Get well slowly, Zac.

Gus was awesome... almost 23 minutes played after more than 20 last night as well.

G getting 3 points in 14:46 ice time.

Hope Kimmo is ok.

Their stat of 'Since last Olympics' was wrong... they were looking at 'since the start of the 10-11 season' instead. Of which G is now 1 point behind Stamkos for 2nd. Unless they were looking at playoffs as well... but I doubt that, and even then he would not be 2nd.

Since the day the last Olympics finished, regular season. (player with 250+ points, inc games tonight that have ended):

St. Louis: 308 points in 280 games
Stamkos: 293 points in 250 games
H. Sedin: 292 points in 283 games
D. Sedin: 282 points in 275 games
Ovechkin: 281 points in 272 games
Giroux: 279 points in 283 games
Tavares: 279 points in 283 games
Kane: 274 points in 277 games
Perry: 268 points in 280 games
Kessel: 267 points in 288 games
Crosby: 264 points in 172 games
Zetterberg: 263 points in 269 games
Staal: 263 points in 281 games
Thornton: 256 points in 280 games
Getzlaf: 250 points in 253 games
Kopitar: 250 points in 279 games
