Dude, if Callahan could be signed to that contract, Sather'd have done it a long time ago.

Been saying: Girardi, 6 years@ $5.5 per for a while now. Callahan will get 6-7 years more likely the latter @ $6M per.

The question is if one or both gets dealt or signed.

I would gladly trade Callahan to Pittsburgh and take Pouliot back. I think that would be enough to get over seeing our captain play with Crosby.

Won't bad mouth stewart, but the real deal would be
Callahan + Stralman + (maybe another +)
for
Shattenkirk
possible adds for cap.

Blues have enough D. Stralman replacement righty D for this year, inside shot at next year.

Rangers upgrade righty D w/local guy = long term fit.

I would love to get Callahan on Ottawa, but definitely not at the cost of 6M.

Not saying we're going to get these players, but we're going to want prospects/yonug players that can at least project as these in the future.
THIS. Too many Rangers fans (not just in this thread) have repeated that they would want a 1st+ for either player. That's getting good value, but what does it do for NY? Having 2-3 1sts this year? Set us up to be better in 4-5 years?

Lundqvist is no spring chicken. We already have McDonagh and Klein signed long term and another year on Staal's deal. We're paying Rick Nash nearly 8M a year and we've got guys like Kreider, Stepan, Zuccarello already here and guys like Miller and Fast knocking on the door.

The time for the Rangers isn't 4-5 years from now. It's the next 3-4 years, while Nash and Lundqvist are still primed for a run. If we're trading Callahan and/or Girardi, I want young guys who are nearly NHL ready. Perhaps a young player who would be playing but is being blocked by more established players who are under contract. Forget picks. Don't add. Just give me a young player with the potential to fill one of our holes.

Truth be told, I would rather do something like package Callahan with a prospect like Fast (top six potential but realistically a middle-six forward with two-way upside, just like everything we already have) AND our 2nd or an equitable pick to ensure that the asset we get back for Callahan can definitely fill one of our specific needs rather than get back a pick that won't contribute for years and a much lesser prospect.

If he wanted that we would have signed him a long time ago. This I promise you. It is the fact that he wants at least a 6 x 6 deal is where the issue comes in.

7 mill for Callahan ?

That's 2 more than Gionta and he's worth a lot more than Gionta.

Would take Callahan for that.

He loves the front of the net, right ?

Big time disagree.
Get max assets upgrade.
High picks good if better prospect/young player not available in deal.

Then, later flip picks at cost of doing biz if we are really so stretched to get guys available now not previously available in initial trade.

Main point is position of strength is to obtain max value.

Trade Callahan. Negotiate with Girardi. I'd give Girardi AT MOST 4 years. AT MOST.

I think he meant that he'd be willing to trade Callahan to Pens only if D. Pouliot comes back (top D prospect). He would hate seeing cally on the Pens but for that prospect he'd be okay with it.

Obviously something like Clarkson's deal is too much IMO, but if he wants 6 million for a couple years I can live with that.
The problem is that he wants that AAV for seven years, not 3-4 years.

If he goes to UFA, I think Pegula would match or exceed any offer made to Callahan. I'd have to think his ties to Western NY could be a deciding factor if several teams met his asking price.

It's probably that he has sculptures of them bronzed over his bed.

Both of them are the Torts poster boys. Danny G will work himself to death if you tell him to, and won't miss a game. The amount of praise he's heaped onto Callahan over the years could smother him. He's talked about how he could play Cally in any and every situation, and he has regularly played him in any and every situation.
