Im guessing it's going to be around that money but Sather is going to have to budge on the years

That is my gut as well. But 6 is projected to be the same % of cap that 5 is now by year 2 of Girardi's deal. Again at the end of the day it's a projection, but if it holds, should be manageable. Sounds like he will take less than 6 anyway.

It is a bit high, I agree.

What are the chances we sign everyone for exactly what we think they're really worth? Someone is going to take us a little out of our comfort zone. We have a gazillion players that are UFA or RFA. If we want to keep our guys, it's inevitable. Either that, or we probably have to overpay to fill holes in free agency. If we're going to have to go a little high, I'd rather it be on Girardi than anyone else.

At some point 500K has to be the difference. They negotiate tens of contracts every season, they can't give away and extra 10% on all of them.
Right. I'm "comfortable" with $5.5M. $6M would be my limit. I think he'd command even more on the open market.

Everything has an ultimate line in business. If you're flexible with the first extra million, why not the second? It's only an extra million as an increment.

So you do have to draw a hard line somewhere. If every player gets a million more than they should, you are killing your roster.

I already feel Hank took the Rangers out of their comfort zone though. That's the thing. I know it seems petty but the guy is a defensive d-man at 30 years old. I think 5-5.5 is a good contract for both parties. He gets paid and he gets the security of a long-term deal and doesn't have to uproot his life.

If he provided more offense consistently I would say 6 easily. He doesn't. On top of that, I am hoping his PP time goes down as they give it more to McDonagh and Moore so that will negatively effect his point totals.

Inputting Fast also assumes they don't get a player in any of those trades who can play there. No matter what, I am not seeing the major drop for the rest of the season.
I think Fast is ready (he was ready defensively out of camp and his scoring is really coming on now) and Lindberg is so close that he will be by the deadline. As I wrote on the previous page (we're moving so fast and furious half of everyone's posts get lost ), that's the whole point of having a system. You have Fast/Kristo/Miller ready so that when you move a Callahan, you can use him to fill another need (top center prospect or top PMD prospect, please) or load up on future assets (picks, very young prospects); you don't need a replacement back in the deal.

But, if that's a bit too much turnover at one time, sure, you can keep Moore for another year. He's extremely solid in his role.

HAHA I feel bad for bankers more than I feel bad for Sather.

This incompetent excuse for a GM has made the mess of having half his team hit UFA/RFA at the end of the year, and he hasn't done a damn thing with any of them except Hank. He's just getting really started now on Callahan and Girardi, a month before the deadline.

He's got a lot of work to do, but you can bet he'll take every short cut possible. Don't have even half an ounce of sympathy for him.

What are the chances Miller will fill into his body totally this summer? If he does I would say he's got a spot on this team

If Girardi provided more offense, I could live with him at a cap of $6M per. But he is a 25-point, shutdown defenseman with limited mobility.

$5-5.5 seems reasonable with the cap rising. That is already substantially more than what comparable players such as Hamhuis, Hjalmarsson, and Kronwall (who is superior to Girardi offensively) are making

I think we should give him what he wants...what's the worse that can happen

a 5.3 million cap hit would only be a 2m raise over his previous deal, as the cap rises.

It does add up, when you consider Lundqvist went up 1.5 million, Girardi goes up 2, Zuccarello might go up 3, but with the cap raising it mitigates the problem.

I like McGinn but he's nothing special.

Would NOT be happy with a McGinn/Barrie package for Callahan.

Also, Avs don't need Callahan. They'd need G if anything.

It's sad that we pretty much have to buy it Richards to sign all these guys

Why is that? Where's the connection between Girardi signing and Staal leaving?

if we resign girardi hopefully that doesnt spell the end to stralman. looks like danny deal gets done. i really like our defense with both of those guys on the right side along with kleiner.

if this smoke coming out of colorado is true, and i believe it is as that is a very young (talented) team who could benefit from the leadership of ryan callahan, mcginn would be a nice addition. young, affordable, scrappy talented winger.

mcgin and a 1st seems like a nice package for the capt.

Why would Phoenix move Yandle for a UFA Callahan?

Maybe like Rundbland + a pick or forward prospect.

I dunno that's pretty good for a UFA. McGinn slides into 3rd line duties and Barrie would be an offensive threat

Colorado would need a Dman back so I think Stralman would go and a 2nd rounder comes back to NYR as well
