That isn't the coaches poll that is the blog writers opinion on how he thinks it will turn out. Actual poll comes out later this week. Either way pretty good results for Nurse.

The coaches poll has finally been released, not a lot of Nurse on it, 3rd hardest shot in the west.

Considering he had an absolute muffin last year, that's pretty good.

How was Nurse not even on defensive defenceman?

Agreed.

All reports seem to point to him having an excellent shot. It seems he's worked on it extensively.

My bet is that his polarizing season made it hard to fit him into the categories. His first half he was a PPG player with loads of PIM's and in the second half he played much more of a solid, defensive role.

edit: watching Michigan/Penn State right now, still a bit choked the Oilers couldn't find a way to trade up and pick TJ Compher in the 2nd round.

Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 4m
Joey LaLeggia is the NCHC's defenseman of the year, beating out UND's Dillon Simpson.

Dunno, but the players he lost out to are good enough that it doesn't concern me TOO much.

Ekblad destroys this though. Is it too much to ask for just *one* more lottery win, regardless of how we close things out?

That's pretty cool, out of left field too. His stats regressed a bit this season.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this award is based on solely NCHC games, and laleggia led that division in goals for inter conference play by a D

If Laleggia has enough strength to handle NHL forwards he could be a player for us, he's much more dynamic than Simpson was in my previous viewings of the two.

I watched him once last season and he looked super dynamic, like a young MAB. However he looked extremely small.

If he winds up having a career like Philip Larsen, ill be surprised.

Im not even sure if hell get a NHL contract from the Oilers, and could see his rights dealt for an AHL forward

Greg chase with 1 goal (+1) in a 5-2 loss to Kootney

Reinhart 2 goals 1 assist
Virtanen 1 assist

We'd be dumbards not to give him a NHL contract. He's short but it's not like he's super lean or anything. His skating and puck skills are very good, it's a matter of whether or not he has enough core strength to handle NHL forwards. He wouldn't be the first small D to make the NHL and have a solid NHL career.

Yep. Look at the year Krug is having. You just have to put them in the right situation

It's not like we're banking on him to be the saviour of the franchise. We should sign him even for AHL depth if nothing else. If he becomes an NHL player, that's a bonus.

There's a stream for DU(Laleggia) vs. WMU(Morrison) at 3pm MST on First Row.

NoDak(Simpson) plays right after at 6:30pm MST, so I would assume it'll be streamed too.

UMass-Lowell(Evan Campbell) also plays at 3pm MST on there.

I missed most of the period making dinner, but what little I saw, Laleggia was making some nice plays on the transition with his hands and skating.

Didn't see much of Morrison, but he's got a bit of a nasty side to him. He was laying the lumber on a guy in front of his net and had a nice hit along the boards. His shot is such a bomb too.

And looking at the Oilers depth chart, they certainly have room for a small offensive guy in their system. Hunt (5'9) and Ference (5'11) are the only sub 6 foot dmen in the Oilers system.
