He wasn't going to sign, so we traded him.

We don't know that.

I was the one on here who speculated this might be the case given some comments on the Ranger broadcast that were attributed to his agent the day he was traded.

They mentioned that a deal with the Oilers was not close at the time of the trade and that the Rieder's people felt that Rieder would have been in tough in the Oiler organization. I still think it is possible that he would not have signed or at least that negotiations were not going well. But that comes only from reading between the lines. There has been no real confirmation that this was the case that I am aware of .

I personally feel that the main motivation for the deal was that the Oilers identified a need for the team to get bigger and tougher. They saw Rieder as another player in the mold of what they already had and made a trade to change the prospect mix. If a contract was going to be problematic this would have just added into the mix.

My take on Rieder's not changed...I can understand trading him, at best his top end potential is as a poor man's Eberle, which isn't a bad player by any means but it isn't something the Oilers need anytime soon. Cashing in that asset for something the team needed more wasn't a bad idea.

The failure was in what they got back, which right now is tracking to have a Cameron Abney-level career path. Another swing 'n a miss for an org that can ill afford squandering poker chips like Rieder for low percentage tomato cans.

I think I might go see Nurse vs. Fabri next week.

Just wondering if I should throw my Oilers jersey on the ice or not?

CHL kids in the playoffs:

OHL
Darnell Nurse 3gp 2g 4a 6p
Greg Chase 4gp 3g 2a 5p
Kyle Platzer 3gp 1g 1a 2p

WHL
Jackson Houck 3gp 1g 1a 2p
Mitch Moroz 3gp 0g 2a 2p
Jujhar Khaira 3gp 0g 0a 0p
Ben Betker 3gp 0g 0a 0p

QMJHL
Marco Roy 4gp 0g 2a 2p

Nurse and Chase are obviously the cream of the crop, but Platzer, Houck, and Moroz are all doing fairly well (by boxcars at least). Khaira is somewhat worrying. Everett only has 6 goals in the series, but still, you'd like to see more.

Comparing Kessy to Abney is ridiculous. Abney can't even make the lineup fulltime in the ECHL in his 3rd pro season. Kessy made the AHL team in his first season. Not to mention, Kessy scored more in a single season in the WHL than Abney had his entire WHL career.

Moroz is having a beastly game from what I can gather listening to the game on 1260.

Could have even more than 4 points. All over the ice.

Chase with 1 goal and 2 assists in a 5-6 loss

Chase now has 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points in 5 games

I think the Hitmen will lose the series. But Chase will be a great addition for OKC on a ATO. Maybe he plays good in the AHL and gets a leg up on making the team full time out of camp

Chase is either in NHL or WHL next year he is not eligible for AHL.

Also don't count out the Hitmen, if they could get a ****ing save they'd have this thing locked.

At least Chase has looked good.

I think he means if Calgary is eliminated, Chase is eligible to play for the Barons.

Hed be eligible to play in the AHL for the remainder of the season (ala Eberle), but next year would be WHL/NHL.

If he comes out and does well in the AHL for 7-10 games, hell have a better shot of making the club next year.

Not saying he has a good shot at making it, but its happened before with later round picks making the NHL quickly

Oooooooooh k. My bad I thought you were talking about him making the Barons next year.

As for Chase playing the stretch drive with the Barons I think that would be superb for his development, but would still rather see him go deep with the Hitmen.

I was at the game last night. Chase is quickly becoming one of my favourite prospects this year.

He has incredible speed. He flew down the RW so fast that the defenders converged on him and he fed a great pass to a wide open Tambellini. He also had the hit of the game sending one of the ice flying at the Hitmen blueline. Nice to see that he's relied on for the PK as well.

Sam Reinhart....besides the score sheet I thought #23 was invisible. Obviously being a top ranked player I expected a lot more from him. If the Hitmen goalies didn't allow 6 goals on 17 shots the Ice would have lost the game

Did Reinhart remind you of RNH at all? I saw him twice last season, and just once this season, but his play was very reminiscent. Stayed to the sides, and used his skating to evade defenders. He enjoyed a lot of perfect chip passes to his teammates, and played it into the slot for roaming players to shoot. His back check was pretty great as well, as he'd read when to leave the play to disrupt the trailing player on a counter attack. Also, if he didn't have the puck, he would roam towards the net and circle back to the boards. Exactly what Eberle used to do, when "being in the right place at the right time" in his first season.

He shied away from any physical play though. Very disheartening, but reasonable considering his size.
