Really random question.

If we draft Ekblad, and decide we don't want him in the NHL as a rookie, and he's waaaay too good for the OHL, can he play for the ECHL team we own?

I mean, the quality of hockey isn't great, but at least he would be playing against bigger guys, unlike 16 year olds in juniors.

Ekblad has to play 1 more year of junior if he isn't in the NHL. That's the good thing about him playing at 15, is that he can leave a year earlier than the rest.

Destroyed 2 games in a row at home. Not an auspicious start to the series, and though I'm not a big OHL guy, surprised at how uneven it is.

Erie is probably the best team in the OHL.

They're the best defensive team with the #1, #2, #4 and #15 highest scorers.

Is Nurse expected/able to play in OKC for the remainder of the year like Chase is doing if SSM gets knocked out?

That's good to hear. I'd love for UND to beat Minnesota and play Boston College in the finals of the Frozen Four.

He is able to, but no idea if he will. In all honesty I'd be ok with either choice. If he gets to play, its some nice experience to ease him into the pro game for next year. If he doesn't, then he can start up on his strength/bulking off season program earlier.

Actually pretty surprised. Good for him though. All those guys on that team are pretty hyped prospects, I doubt many people outside Oiler fans know Simpson.

Kinda weird how Laleggia won NCHC D and Offensive D of the year over Simpson but Simpson made the 1st team All-NCAA team

Nurse in OKC would be good. They must be hurting for defensemen after we took Marincin and Klefbom. Klefbom might be hurt too, so who knows if they'd even get him back.

I'd like to see what Nurse can do in the AHL as soon as the Otters finish him off.

“It’s cool how the pattern works like that,” Simpson said. “Freshman year, after a tough year, to be able to get drafted by the Oilers was a great feeling for me and I’m still excited when I talk about it. Then this year, I’m trying to cap off a great year with a good run here. I’ve got all the faith in the world in our team. Then from there, hopefully being able to be a part of the Oilers organization somewhere and trying to play professional hockey will be a fun experience for me.

Doesn't sound like he isn't willing to sign with us.

The double negative you put in there might confuse people who don't read the article carefully. What you're saying is that it sounds like he is willing to sign with the Oilers.

Nurse scores, but SSM gets swept.

8 points in 9 playoff games for Nurse. Not a good finish, but the Otters are absolutely stacked

Question:

Did Yakupov need to be on the AHL team for the "Clear Day Roster" on deadline day to be eligible to play for the Barons in the playoffs, or is everyone on a two way eligible when our season ends? Does he get in due to his ELC? Would love to see him there if they make the playoffs.

Thanks

I think he needed to at least play or dress for one game in the AHL to qualify plus he is injured and should use the time to recover fully.

Yeah I understand you being upset about Nurse not being nominated (and frankly, he should have been) but you are crazy if you think Pelech didn't deserve to be nominated. He was easily one of the top 10 dmen in the league this season, if not top 5.

Nurse was impressive in the two games I saw him live monday/tuesday night.

He had to have played 30 minutes a night, it felt like he was always out there.

Very smooth with the puck, solid defensively, knows when to jump into the rush.

If he has a good camp next season I think he'll push for a roster spot.

It's one of those cases where he may be just short of cracking the NHL team but has outgrown junior.

I think the NHL-CHL deal should be reworked and the NHL should get the ability to have one exception player in the AHL for their 19 year old season. For the Oilers it would have to be him next year. Then when the deal expires, they can push for it being for the 18 year old season. There are some guys who are too good for CHL but not ready for the NHL, just like Nurse. The CHL has an exception status for 15 year olds, time to have it go the other way.
