I think each team should be allowed to do this with 1 player every 5 years. Then its up to the team who they would like to do it with.

It would take top talent from the CHL, but would be over a longer period, so the damage wouldn't be too bad.

Marco Roy with his first goal of the playoffs tonight. He's had a much worse playoffs this year than last, injury?

The Barons, with Darnell Nurse, will be playing live on Sportsnet 360 this Sunday at 4:00 ET.

Great chance to see some of the new kids, and maybe even Darnell.

I could see something like this working.

I don't think there has to be a limit on it though.

Perhaps just some sort of committee.

So say Edmonton decides they aren't going to play Nurse in the NHL squad next season, but they think he is too good for junior at this point.

They submit a request to some committee to review his case and that committee fairly decides if the player is ready to move up and no longer belongs in junior.

They would have to limit it to very special cases and be specific, because I could see NHL teams just plucking all their top talent out of junior and dropping it in the AHL.

Dillon Simpson plays against Minnesota at 8:30 EST tonight. It's on ESPN2 for our friends to the south. I'd guess there'll be a stream somewhere though.

If North Dakota(Simpson's team) wins, they move on to the National Championship game on Saturday vs. the winner of Boston College/Union's game that just started.

If they lose, Simpson's season will be over and he'll be free to sign.

Boston College chokes against Union today. If North Dakota wins tonight they have a slightly better shot at winning the title

I wouldn't really call it a choke. It was #2 vs. #3. Union beat BC last year too.

Minnesota(#1) losing to NoDak(#9) is the real potential upset.

I suggest Oiler fans watch the link ^ if they want to watch good hockey.

Simpson having a very good game tonight. Broke up numerous passes and blocked 3 shots already. Looks like a stud out there

Game tied 0-0

You're telling me Dillon Simpson isn't among the elite 200 foot defenseman in college hockey. So underrated.

Beth Hoole ‏@bethhooleVNL 22m
Dillon Simpson lays out to block a shot for UND - his 107th of the season. Leads the nation. #FrozenFour

Tom Zulewski ‏@T_Zulewski91 22m
Dillon Simpson is a flat-out horse. The Oilers have themselves a great player.

Yeah, Simpson has been an absolute monster defensively.

Breaking up or blocking everything.

Mother of god...Minnesota scores shorthanded with 0.6 seconds left and win 2-1.

Wowowowowoowow.

Simpson's season is over.

Jesus. Minnesota wins it on a pk with .6 seconds to go. The miracle run is over, but Simpson was a beast in the game

He really was a beast.

Every pass was tape to tape and, like the commentator said, he might have had as many blocked shots as his goalie had saves.

Skating did not look bad at all either, which was a major concern with him. Looked like a solid puck moving D. Dont think I saw him get beat on a rush or a shot get by.

Horrible goal to end it tho

The fact that we have so many defensemen that are doing very well and we're drafted so low excites me

The problem now is we do not have many young forwards.

I think its better to have an absence of young D. Can always parlay them into forward prospects. D prospects are also hit or miss, so we can load up with forward prospects next draft and hope to find a Chase, Khaira or Yakimov

As the the D prospects, Id rank them

Nurse (top pairing potential)
Klefbom/Marincin (top 4 potential, one has top pairing potential if everything goes right)

Simpson (top 4 upside)
Gernat (bottom pairing, PP specialist, could pull a Marincin and become top 4)
Musil (bottom pairing potential, top 4 if skating is improved)

Davidson (AHL call up/ Bottom pairing)

(all bottom pairing max or AHL players)
Betker
Laleggia
Osterele
Gustavsson

Pretty good crop of 6 good D prospects. The other guys arent as good, but one could emerge soon. Laleggia just won ECAC defenseman of the year, hoping for a big season next year

Brad Hunt absolutely turned it on at the end of the season, he has a bunch of points this year and made the AHL Allstar second team.

Defencemen always take a bit longer to develop so having so many means we can trade them for good forward prospects.

How come everyone seems worried Simpson won't sign here and re-enter? Is it just the depth? Or did someone say something that I missed?

I did hear his father state on the radio that EDMd dmen prospect depth is deep and it would not be in a dman prospect best decision to sign in EDM

I think his dad made some comment about how it would be tough for any young defenseman on the Oilers because of their prospect depth. Some rumors popped up with wild speculation based on the comment.

Dillon did an interview lately where he more or less said he plans on signing with the Oilers.

The Oilers have what, 219847124938174 LHD prospects now? We could really use Ekblad to balance out the depth. Signing a guy like Kenny Morrison wouldn't hurt either.

Would rather keep Simpson and flip one or two of our LHD's for centre prospects.

The thing is, Nurse, Marincin, and Klefbom will all likely have a higher impact in the NHL than Simpson, so unless another team wants to take Musil or Davidson or something...
